What is the opposite word of Talking?
Listening
In many cases it is not.
It is waiting to talk !
Listening is not about being quiet when someone
else is speaking
Why People Don’t Listen?
 People are distracted, preoccupied or forgetful 75 percent of the time.
Recall - 50 percent of what was said immediately after we talk
 We spend just 45 percent of our time listening
 We remember just 20 percent of what we hear.
 Only 2 percent of us have had formal educational
experience with listening
Route 350(the gap between the rate of
speech and rate of thought
 Thinking 4 X speaking
 Processing speed of brain = 500 wpm
 Speaking speed = 150 wpm
 Unused mental capacity = 350 wpm
 Lead to wandering of mind is called as Route 350
 Thus while listening you will be able to think about what you
are hearing, really understand it, and give feedback to the
speaker

Not listening from the perspective of the speaker
due to prejudice, self-centeredness
How to increase efficiency
 C -- Concentrate on what the speaker is saying.
 A – Acknowledge with correct body language.( nod head,
“yes"," go on", smile, frown, laugh)
 R – Research to understand what the speaker is saying
 E – Exercise Control
 S – Structure – Put the message in order
