• Video related to NLP
• Structural composition of NLP
• What is NLP?
• Why is it needed?
• An example
• How it works?
• Effects of NLP
• Conclusion
• Neuro:-
Neuro refers to the brain and neural network that feeds into the brain.
(Visual,Auditory,Kinesthetic,Olfactory,Gustatory)
• Linguistic:-
Linguistics refer to the content, both verbal and non-verbal, that
moves across and through these pathways
• Programming:-
Programming is the way the content or signal is manipulated to
convert it into useful information
NLP
• Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the science of modelling the patterns of human
behaviour.
• It is a method in which
 Brain is being influenced
 Through the use of language or other types of communication
 To "recode" the way the brain responds to stimuli
HISTORY OF NLP
• NLP was initially created in early 1970’s by Richard Bandler, a student of mathematics, and
John Grinder, a professor of linguistics at The University of California
• A system of alternative therapy based on this which seeks to educate people in self-awareness
and effective communication, and to change their patterns of mental and emotional
behaviour."
Richard Bandler John Grinder
NLP MODELS
After studying extraordinary people , Richard Bandler and John Grinder
created the following models
• Meta Model
• Milton Model
• Modeling Excellence
META MODEL
• Meta-modeling in NLP is the process of carefully questioning the
distortions that occur in natural language with the intent of helping
someone develop new choice in thinking and behavior.
• Example
META MODEL
It consist of 3 categories
A) Deletion B) Generalisation C) Distortion
Deletion
We leave some aspects because we do not have the words to express
them, or because we think them less important and yet others because
we just did not notice them at the time
Examples
• Mistakes were made.
Who made the mistake?
• I created a great impression on her.
How exactly did you do that?
Generalization
• We generalize when we take an example to represent a whole group.
• For example we see how our parents treat each other and take that as
the model of how men and woman live together.
• Generalization is the basis of learning, our beliefs are generalization
Example
• I will never get this right.
Has there ever been a time when I did get it right?
• I always make a mess of it.
What every single time? There has never ever been a time when you
didn’t make a mess of it?
Distortion
• Distortion is how we change our experience. We can distort in many ways,
we can make it larger, smaller, more dilute, more concentrate, we can blow it
out of proportion.
• Distortion like deletion neither good nor bad.
• It depends on what and how you distort. Distortion can make you unhappy
and paranoid. It is also the basis for creativity, artistic talents.
• Distortion can be divided into three categories
1) Blamers
o He makes me furious
o She makes me feel so small
2) Presupposition
It refers to an assumption whereby the truth is taken for granted.
o I know why you did that.
o You cannot fail to communicate.
Example
• I am afraid of snakes, even if I see a snake or even hear a sound close to resembling that of a snake is a
feeling of total fright.
{This is because, I was born in an area infested with several deadly snakes.}
• One day a boy from my neighborhood came to our house.
• He knocked on the door. I opened the door.
• He had a snake in his hand.
• He was holding it like we hold a pet cat. For him it was a pet. So, it gave him lot of joy to hold one.
• To me, it gave a migraine headache!
• Our brains interpreted the implications of the snake entirely differently, based upon our
experiences (good and bad), our biases, our opinions, our value systems, etc. to convert it into
useful information that we can use.
Words we use reflect an inner,
subconscious perception of our problems
• So in the presence of a dog that person can never be an effective person.
• He needs an NLP therapist, who will find out the cause of this fear by Meta model.
• So a therapist will
• he will remove that memory or
• he made the patient believe that dog is not a fearful thing.
• He can find out that dog is not the cause of that illness, which he had suffered in his past.
3) Interpretation
Interpretation or 'mind reading' is the act of assigning meaning to another
person's state or behaviour, without using sensory based evidence to support
the claim.
Feedback
You stayed seated and continued speaking
Interpretation
Your attitude is wrong
Concept of Modalities
• When we experience the world,
• we create internal maps of it & use those maps to our personal thinking & action especially with other
people.
• This experience in NLP is based on our five senses. These are:
• Visual (images)
• Auditory (sounds)
• Kinesthetic (touch and internal feelings)
• Gustatory (tastes)
• Olfactory (smells)
• The qualities and attributes of the representations you make using your five senses are
called modalities and this is the base of NLP
• All the people have different experiences in their lives, based on Modalities and
Words we use reflect an inner, subconscious
perception of our problems
• So, this is a therapy, which enable people
• to unblock the structures of human communication and human excellence
• so people can think, communicate and manage themselves, and others, more effectively.
Why it is Needed ??????
• Simply because it's proven to work.
• If you want to have more choices about
• your behaviour and emotion
• to improve your relationships
• the way you communicate,
• create better results through becoming a greater thinker,
• Then NLP can provide you with a step-by-step framework for achieving all this and
more. Not just in the short term, but lasting transformation, which will stay with you
for your entire life.
• NLP treats the inner workings of the human mind and guides you to make revolution in
• how we think
• how we develop our desires, goals and fears
• how we motivate ourselves, make connections
• How we give meaning to our experiences
WHO USES NLP?
People from all walks of life use NLP personally and professionally
mainly
• Teachers
• Salespeople
• Business Owners
• Psychologists
• Doctors
• Negotiators
WHO USES NLP?
• Businesses can use NLP to foster world-class sales and customer
service - and to implement organizational change effectively
• Educators can study the verbal and nonverbal language of every child
to identify how each one learns best. As classrooms become
increasingly diverse, NLP skills are becoming more essential.
How is it Implemented ????
• Meta model in NLP is a set of questions designed to find the explicit meaning in a person's communication
• Example:
• Subject: I am so tired.
• Analyst: What makes you tired?
• Subject: He is always taunting me and making fun of me.
• Analyst: Who is making fun of you?
• Subject: Bob.
• Analyst: Bob who?
• Subject: Bob Sullivan, my neighbor.
• Analyst: Why is Bob making fun of you?
• Subject: He is such a tease!
IMPORTANCE OF NLP
• NLP is the most well defined and reliable approach to 'running your
own mind' with ease and greater satisfaction and with more rapid
results.
• The Principles for Change Empowering beliefs that will change the
way you experience and interact with the world around you Discover
and take control of the links between your mind and body.
IMPORTANCE OF NLP
• It helps in mastering goals Setting goals for success Enabling others
to set achievable goals.
• It helps in understanding how we represent the world understand how
we represent the world inside our mind.
CONCLUSION
• Start with yourself! Start by using Meta model on your own internal
dialogue, notice how you create your internal reality with the words
you say to yourself.
• Use the meta model on what you say aloud as well
• If you are not clear in your mind about what you are saying, then how
will other people understand you.
