exam. In 2012-13, FISD students posted a composite score
of 1625 on the SAT.

12. 535 Friendswood High School students took 1079 AP
exams with 75.1% scoring a 3, 4, or 5
FISD Performs Well on AP Exams
14. A record amount of more than $161,000 was given to teachers
and campuses from the Friendswood Education Foundation. The
group met the $1 million dollar giving mark this year in both
endowment and in giving grants to teachers.

16. Texas Honors Circle
FISD and Windsong Intermediate are recipients of the Texas Honors Circle
Awards for District and Campus. The comptroller's office created this award to
recognize Texas public school districts and campuses that have achieved
significant student academic growth while keeping spending relatively low.
17. FISD receives the
Energy Pacesetter Award
Friendswood ISD received the Energy Pacesetter Award. The Energy Pacesetter Award is
for stellar organizations that are setting the pace in energy savings for others.
18. Academic Decathlon Wins State, Again!
Not only did the Friendswood High School Academic Decathlon win State Championship
for middle sized schools, but also had six members invited to compete at Nationals in
Hawaii. Nine individuals with the top scores in the nation were invited to compete; 6 of
those 9 were from FHS!
Academic Decathlon returned with great results at National competition in Honolulu,
Hawaii. Six Decathletes qualified as individuals and all came away with medals.
Friendswood posted the 5th highest score overall, winning medals in every subject. Total
20. Seven students at Friendswood High School have been selected as 2013-2014
National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholar or Honorable Mention
recipients.
21. FHS senior, Roma Pradhan, has
been named a semifinalist of the
73rd annual Science Talent Search.
Friendswood High School is one of
185 across the US from which one
or more Intel STS semifinalists were
named this year.

inducted into the National Museum
of Education's National Gallery for
America's Young Inventors. She is
one of six young inventors inducted
in December 2013 in Akron, Ohio
where the National Gallery is
located.
22. Two students were invited to compete in the Intel
International Science and Engineering Fair in Los
Angeles.
23. FHS had many winning students at science fairs on campus, at Galveston County
Science Fair and at the Houston Science and Engineering Fair. The majority of the
competitors also received scholarships and awards at the fairs.
25. Four Westwood Bales teams competed in the 2014 Mars
Rover Contest at the University of Houston and came in
first, second, third and fourth places.

33. The Top 5 inventors at Westwood Bales advanced to the
25th Annual Young Inventors Showcase of Houston at The
Children's Museum
34. DECA Advances to State
12 DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) members
advanced to State competition. One advanced to International
competition in Atlanta during the summer.
35. Forensics Student Qualifies for
Nationals!

Dickens, for the
National Forensic league
National Tournament in
June. This is his third
year to attend and this
year he earned 8th place
out of 248 competitors.
36. FCCLA Competes at State
Six members of Family Career and Community Leaders of America
(FCCLA) competed at State contest in Corpus Christi. Two
members competed in Environmental Ambassador and won first
place. The two advanced to National competition in San Antonio.
37. SkillsUSA had 27 students compete at State with two advancing
to National competition this summer.
38. Five Friendswood Junior High robotics teams competed in a Texas Computer Education
Association Region IV robotics meet at Fairmont Junior High in Deer Park ISD. Two of the
FJH teams advanced to State competition in Deer Park.

39. FHS won the Good Herdsman Award at the Houston Livestock
Show and Rodeo. Competing against approximately 400 others,
the FHS group won for quality of care given to their animals, stalls'
cleanliness and for the ability to share Ag Science knowledge with
visitors.

represents FHS at the Galveston County Fair & Rodeo.

47. The Friendswood Wranglerettes wrapped up their competition
season at Crowd Pleasers Nationals where the girls were
named 2014 National Champions after winning first place in
every team and every officer routine.
The Wranglerettes have won a National Championship title 16 times in
their history and are undefeated since 2007.
48. The Varsity Color Guard placed first in World Division, the
JV placed second in Scholastic JV Division and the Junior
High team placed first in Cadet Division.
49. For the first time in school history, Friendswood Junior High sent a squad to compete at
NCA Senior and Junior High School National Championship in Dallas.
The FJH Cheerleaders had scored enough to take second place and received 2 of 3 Judges’
Awards; “Best Use of Tumbling” and the prestigious “Superior Showmanship,” which is
generally awarded to the first place team. They put Friendswood Junior High on the map
and set the bar high for the squads to come.

51. The Mustang athletic program is enjoying an
unprecedented surge in participation.
For the 2013/2014 academic year the high school
had approximately 945 students participate in UIL
athletic programs.
Roughly 44% of all students on campus are
involved in UIL sports.
The Jr. High had approximately 610 combined
athletes in the four athletic periods.
52. FJH's 8th grade Mustangs won State title for 7 on 7
football. The final game was between FJH and
Magnolia. Score was 28-20.
63. Wrestling once again showed its competitive strength by
qualifying a female wrestler for the state meet, 3 male
qualifiers and producing one State Champion for the boys.

This year will be remembered as one of the
most successful in school history.
Every FHS varsity team made it to the 4A
playoffs, and all but one team went past the first
round of playoffs.
