2. Who games more?
The gamer audience reportedly stands at 33.5 million Britons –
69% of the population of Britain. This means that there is more than
the stereotypical teenage boy playing a computer game alone.
So who else is playing games? Based on interviews with 4,000 UK
residents, the research asserts that women now account for 52%
of the gaming audience.
But why is it that when I go into any online game today that at
least 75% of the people I am playing with will still be males? One
reason could be ‘Cyberbullying’ which is putting females off
multiplayer games. They could fear being different to everyone
else.

3. Where are the girl gamers?
There are generally four types of gamers.
Casual Gamer - Rather, a casual gamer has a casual attitude to gaming. It is
something of a light hobby, used primarily to unwind and relax.
Social Gamer - A social gamer is one who is motivated by connecting with other
people through the medium of gaming.
Specialist Gamer - We now move away from gaming as purely a hobby and more
into a passion. The specialist gamer knows what they like.
Expert Gamer - The expert gamer is not specifically someone who is highly skilled
at games. Instead they are characterised by a wide range of tastes and a desire
to enjoy new gaming experiences.
From this categorisation of gamers a majority of girl gamers will most likely be put
into specialist gamer. The majority would not be put into social gamer because
feminism in the gaming industry is still a big problem like cyberbullying is to young
adults.

4. What I found out myself?
I found out that the majority of people (male or female) who had
played games before knew the possible effects it has on your life. But
both genders still play games as much as they would have before they
knew that information. But does this mean that both males and
females play a game for the same reason?
5. What did outside sources tell
me?
‘Mobile puzzlers like Candy Crush Saga and Angry Birds are free, intuitive and
accessible, requiring neither the learning time, nor the expense, of traditional
“core” games experiences.’ - Keith Stuart- The Guardian
This suggests to me that since females are usually on their phone more often
socialising with friends that it is easier for them to also game on their phone where as
males usually take the time out to play a game on their personal machine which is
not always around with them.
‘Being a gamer, though, means you fundamentally must believe in belonging:
believe that people of all attitudes, from all walks of life, can peaceably coexist.’ -
Jenn Frank - The Guardian
This opinionated statement suggests that females of all kind game to feel belonging
and to feel wanted somewhere. Almost to have a second life where it doesn’t matter
what you look like but to be only judged on who you actually are.
6. Conclusion
In conclusion I think my idea would be a fantastic
documentary because it’s a variation of a topic
everyone has a different opinion about so I think
that people may take more of an interest into it.
Also since everyone has had some experience
with a game before I think that more people
may engage with the interviewee’s more.
