2. Origin:
– China’s Group buying, Tuángòu (pronounced "twangowoo"), is a kind of team
buying or group buying (also known as store mobbing). Tuangou market originated
by meituan.com, the second but the most successful Groupon.com clone in China.
Concept:
– Selling very limited number of service voucher or product within a limited time
with extremely discounted price
Key Features of China’s Group buying
– Number of selling items: Normally one, and often sells several items
– Reselling same Items: Sometimes, one site sells same item several times, and also
several sites sell one item at different time period.
– Selling Time period: Normally one day, and often sells several days to weeks
– Discount rate: Normally 70% discount, often sells at 80%~99% discount rate.
Types of China’s Group buying:
– Service type: Service oriented traditional Group buying, dealing service such as Spa,
restaurant, and so on.
– Product type: Selling products with very cheap price within limited time. It seems
similar with Woot.com, but actually adopts Groupon site style.
– Hybrid type: One company provides both service and products at one site, or at
two different sites.
