2. WHAT IS POLLUTION?
Environmental pollution
can be defined as an
undesirable change in
the physical, chemical
or biological
characteristics of the
air, water or land that
can affect human
health.
3.
4. TYPES OF POLLUTION:
Air Pollution
Due to various human activities
mainly transportation and
industries the air gets polluted.
Some of the major air pollutants
are :
A) Carbon dioxide
B) Carbon monoxide
C) Acidic gases
D) Smoke
E) Metallic Particles
Air pollution causes Acid Rain.
5.
6. WATER POLLUTION
Water is a renewable natural resource, yet its
uneven distribution has made its availability scarce.
The sources of water pollution are classified as:
A) Point Sources
B) Non-Point sources
7. Major cause of land pollution is ‘littering’ and
‘improper disposal of solid waste’.
Solid waste can be classified as bio-degradable or non-biodegradable.
A)Biodegradable waste being of plant or animal origin
decomposes easily and does not cause pollution.
B)Non- Biodegradable waste such as glass, plastics and
metals does not decompose and lies around for a long
time causing land pollution.
