3. What is Estimation
Estimation is a tool for planning and controlling the
activity of any project with respect to quality,
finance and time. Estimation of a project is a forcast
of its probable cost.
4. Type of Estimation
Estimation are divided in two types which are as follows:
1. Approximate Estimate : Estimation is more or less
approximate, therefore the actual cost of the
project cannot be known until it is completed in all
aspects.
2. Detailed Estimate : A complete schedule of all
possible items which are likely to occur is prepared
and proper unit of cost is applied to these items.
5. Purpose of Estimation
1. To find out the probable cost of the project.
2. To make provisions for the budget before hand.
3. It gives an idea of the time required for the
completion of work.
4. To obtain administrative approval.
5. To obtain technical sanctions.
6. It help in making tenders.
7. It helps in controlling the expenditure during
the execution of the work.
