Conclusion
Self-Service BI
The tool has been advancing rapidly with the bi-weekly
update cycle and has matured in the visualization and
storyboarding aspects. Limitations include missing SAP
HANA import, robust data prep features.
Traditional BI
SCP provides a stable platform with lot of flexibility on
the cloud. The biggest strength is the best connectors
to SAP HANA, BW, BW4HANA, S4HANA, BPC. But lack
of integration with SAP BOBJ BIP has been a concern in
leveraging existing investments.
Modern BI
With inbuilt predictive and planning features, SAC
provides unique capabilities apart from BI. The App
Design has been the latest addition to this portfolio.
Self-Service BI
Power BI Desktop, Power Query Editor, 0365,
DAX and M language provide some of the most
advanced self-service capabilities along with
custom extensions.
Traditional BI
Integration with the Microsoft suite, especially
the 0365 tools and Azure services is the
strength of Power BI.
Modern BI
Integration with Python and R, quick insights,
NLP, voice-based analytics, and integration

Import : Supported Features
• The Power BI connector for SAP HANA uses the SAP ODBC driver, to provide
the best use experience
• SAP HANA supports both DirectQuery and Import options
• Power BI supports HANA information models ( such as Analytic and Calc
views) and has optimized navigation
• With SAP HANA you can also use the direct SQL feature to connect to Row
and Column Tables
• Includes Optimized Navigation for HANA Models
• Power BI supports SAP HANA Variables and Input parameters
DirectQuery : Optional Features
Treat HANA as a multi-dimensional source (default): Currently in preview, and the new default setting. In this case, the behavior will be
like when Power BI connects to other multi-dimensional sources. When connecting to HANA using this setting, a single analytic or
calculation view is selected, and all the measures, hierarchies and attributes of that view will be available in the field list. As visuals are
created, the aggregate data will always be retrieved from HANA. This is the normal, recommended approach.
Treat HANA as a relational source: In this case, Power BI treats HANA as a relational source. This offers greater flexibility, but care must
be taken to ensure that measures are aggregated as expected, and to avoid performance issues.

SAP HANA

§ In DirectQuery over relational sources there are a set of queries (as
defined in the Get Data or Query Editor dialog) that logically define
the data that is available in the field list. This is not the case when
connecting to an OLAP source such as SAP BW. Instead, when
connecting to the SAP server using Get Data, just the Infocube or BEx
Query is selected. Then all the Key Figures and dimensions of the
selected Infocube/BEx Query will be available in the field list.
§ Similarly, there is no Query Editor when connecting to SAP BW. The
data source settings (for example, server name) can be changed by
selecting Edit Queries > Data source settings. The settings for any
Variables can be changed by selecting Edit Queries > Edit Variables.
§ Given the unique nature of OLAP sources, there are additional
restrictions (for both modelling and visualizations) that apply, in
addition to the normal restrictions imposed for DirectQuery.
