Culture
Appreciation
The school is one of the many institutions in a society which
encourages diversity among its students in so many ways. Inside a
single classroom, the ethnicity of each student is different yet they
can work collaborative. They also have a different mother language
but it is not a hindrance for them to communicate properly and with
respect to each other’s opinion and ideas. For the life skills for the
month of November, the school encourages the students to
appreciate another culture. Culture appreciation is taking the time
out to learn the different cultures and their traditions. It also helps
the students to become more open in understanding the truths about
a culture and embracing them in a respectful manner.
Each grade level was assigned a specific country in which they
will learn to appreciate its culture. For the grade 10 students, they
were assigned to France, a European country known as the home of
the famous structure, the Eiffel Tower.
For the first activity for this life skill, in
collaboration with their arts teacher, the students
will make the flag of the country assigned to them.
The flag of a country symbolizes the freedom
celebrated by the state and it represents the people
and its culture. It is also the symbol which makes
them different from others. The student was asked
to bring the materials needed such as glue, scissors,
stick and colored papers. They were also advised to
use to proper color for the flag in order to shows
respect to the country which is part of the skills
being developed this month. The activity was
facilitated by their class adviser. They were also
advised to look for the meaning of the colors
included in the flag for additional information. The
activity was done during their homeroom period.
Their final output was recorded as performance task
in their arts subject.
For the next activity this month,
the student will decorate their bulletin
board in which it will showcase more the
country assigned to them. The students of
grade 10 decided to make their bulletin
board as an information board in which for
those who will see it will get knowledge
about France such as basic trivia, common
phrases, tourist spots and delicacies. In
this way, not just the class will appreciate
the beauty of the country but also the
people who will see it.
It is only a month before Christmas and it is part of every school tradition to decorate
their classroom and their school the fits to the incoming yuletide season. The school is not left
behind. As the main highlight for this month, each class will decorate their classroom with
Christmas decoration but the twist is, it shouldn’t be just a common decoration we always witness
in our country but it should fit with the concept of Christmas in the country assigned to them.
Christmas in France is the same as the other Christmas around the world. It is filled with lights
and snow though Santa Claus is not the main character in their celebration. The grade 10 chose
the color, red, blue and silver as their color motif for the decoration which is the same as the
colors found in the flag of France. They also made a Christmas tree out of plastic bottles. They
did the decoration during homeroom and vacant time and all the students enjoyed the activity as
they played with the garlands and laugh with each other’s snowflake cutout. The activity is not
hard task for them for they help one another and as a family, they tried to finish their second
home for Christmas.
Diversity is present everywhere we go and being different is good. As a person, we should
learn to respect and appreciate someone or something that is different from our culture. That is
the lesson that is planted to the students this month. Every culture and tradition is rich and it
is not just limited to the country it is being practiced. We can enjoy someone’s culture for it
also teaches us to appreciate differences.

G10 Culture Appreciation (Life Skills)

  • 1. Culture Appreciation The school is one of the many institutions in a society which encourages diversity among its students in so many ways. Inside a single classroom, the ethnicity of each student is different yet they can work collaborative. They also have a different mother language but it is not a hindrance for them to communicate properly and with respect to each other’s opinion and ideas. For the life skills for the month of November, the school encourages the students to appreciate another culture. Culture appreciation is taking the time out to learn the different cultures and their traditions. It also helps the students to become more open in understanding the truths about a culture and embracing them in a respectful manner. Each grade level was assigned a specific country in which they will learn to appreciate its culture. For the grade 10 students, they were assigned to France, a European country known as the home of the famous structure, the Eiffel Tower.
  • 2. For the first activity for this life skill, in collaboration with their arts teacher, the students will make the flag of the country assigned to them. The flag of a country symbolizes the freedom celebrated by the state and it represents the people and its culture. It is also the symbol which makes them different from others. The student was asked to bring the materials needed such as glue, scissors, stick and colored papers. They were also advised to use to proper color for the flag in order to shows respect to the country which is part of the skills being developed this month. The activity was facilitated by their class adviser. They were also advised to look for the meaning of the colors included in the flag for additional information. The activity was done during their homeroom period. Their final output was recorded as performance task in their arts subject.
  • 3. For the next activity this month, the student will decorate their bulletin board in which it will showcase more the country assigned to them. The students of grade 10 decided to make their bulletin board as an information board in which for those who will see it will get knowledge about France such as basic trivia, common phrases, tourist spots and delicacies. In this way, not just the class will appreciate the beauty of the country but also the people who will see it. It is only a month before Christmas and it is part of every school tradition to decorate their classroom and their school the fits to the incoming yuletide season. The school is not left behind. As the main highlight for this month, each class will decorate their classroom with Christmas decoration but the twist is, it shouldn’t be just a common decoration we always witness in our country but it should fit with the concept of Christmas in the country assigned to them. Christmas in France is the same as the other Christmas around the world. It is filled with lights and snow though Santa Claus is not the main character in their celebration. The grade 10 chose the color, red, blue and silver as their color motif for the decoration which is the same as the colors found in the flag of France. They also made a Christmas tree out of plastic bottles. They did the decoration during homeroom and vacant time and all the students enjoyed the activity as they played with the garlands and laugh with each other’s snowflake cutout. The activity is not hard task for them for they help one another and as a family, they tried to finish their second home for Christmas.
  • 4. Diversity is present everywhere we go and being different is good. As a person, we should learn to respect and appreciate someone or something that is different from our culture. That is the lesson that is planted to the students this month. Every culture and tradition is rich and it is not just limited to the country it is being practiced. We can enjoy someone’s culture for it also teaches us to appreciate differences. Joyeux Nöel. . .
