ue Saint-Honoré is famous for its
high-end boutiques, with all the
famous brands vying for a space
on the most popular shopping
street in the fashion capital. And
while the boutiques that are
already proudly installed on the street make for
great shopping, it is the hidden boutiques on
that street that make shopping in Paris even
more special. One of these well-kept secrets is
found just across the road from Colette, hidden
in a quaint courtyard. Mad Lords, an accessories
haven, is a multi-brand boutique offering limited
edition leather goods and jewellery as well as
vintage pieces. Showcased in an apartment-
like boutique, the jewellery and accessories are
predominantly rock-inspired but you could
also find dainty pieces if you are looking for
less statement-making items as well as fun
accessories such as Linda Farrow sunglasses.
In another hidden courtyard on rue Saint-
Honoré is the Caroline di Marchi boutique. The
handbag designer’s hidden space is a charming
address in the fashion capital that unfortunately
if you do not know exists you could easily walk
past without ever discovering the sublime bags
that are found within. Her signature bag is the
Cubo, and is available in a myriad of colours,
from bright orange to subdued beige, and is an
ideal day bag, while her woven leather clutches
with seashell detailing are a sexy accessory to
make your outfit standout in a crowd.
On the other side of the city, overlooking
the Panthéon is the relatively new spa
Or’Normes, which opened last year in one of
the oldest parts of Paris. If you’re looking for a
getaway within a getaway this space is ideal,
as it will transport you to Marrakech as you
step into a Riad-inspired decor. The signature
treatment here is the Initiation au Rituel
Oriental, which includes a traditional Moroccan
hammam body scrub. An olive paste is applied
to your body before entering the hammam
where the humidity opens your pores and lets
the miracle paste penetrate your skin. After
twenty minutes, the paste is scrubbed off your
body using an exfoliating glove leaving your skin
as smooth as silk. A great treatment to get you

The iconic Guerlain boutique on the most
beautiful avenue in the world is a glorious
destination for admirers of everything opulent.
The boutique boasts the French house’s
complete collection of perfumes and beauty
products as well as the magnificent salon where
bespoke fragrances are created. This address
of privilege has become even more luxurious
with the opening of Le 68, a restaurant that
is so delicately hidden on the first floor of
the boutique that you may never know of its
existence if you were to just walk in front of
the boutique. The restaurant’s menu, created
by Michelin-starred chef extraordinaire Guy
Martin, features dishes that combine the talents
of Martin’s cooking and the notes used by
Guerlain’s nose Thierry Vasseur in the house’s
perfumes. Your sense of sight, smell and taste
will be seduced by the marriage of foie gras
and vanilla in puff pastry and Peking duck with
honey, Sichuan pepper, orange and cardamom,
while the dessert menu transforms two of
Guerlain’s most popular perfumes, Shalimar
and La Petite Robe Noire, into sweet sensations
offering the Jardins de Shalimar macaron with
clementine and bergamot and the chocolate-
flavoured Little Black Dress.
Place Vendôme is known internationally for
the jewellery houses that encircle the majestic
square. All the fine houses including Dior, Piaget
and Boucheron are all found on the square but
what many do not know is that French haute
jewellery house Van Cleef & Arpels also have
a school behind their boutique at the Place

The French couture house Lanvin celebrates 125 years of fabulous
fashion. Marking this huge milestone is the new collection that reflects
the essence of the house that has made people from all over the world
dream of wearing Lanvin.
It all started in 1889 when Jeanne Lanvin set up shop as a milliner on the
corner of rue Boissy d’Anglas and rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, where
the house’s flagship boutique still stands today. Eight years later Jeanne
gave birth to her daughter, Marguerite Marie Blanche, who fast became her
mother’s muse. Jeanne was greatly inspired by her daughter that she decided
to design clothes for her and slowly created a high fashion-filled wardrobe for
the young fashionista and was inspired to launch a children’s wear collection.
The new collection quickly became a hit with the mothers of the other girls
at Marguerite’s school asking Jeanne to make the same outfits for them.
With the popularity of the line growing, Jeanne decided to open a Children’s
Suits department in 1908 and a year later inaugurated the Young Ladies
and Women’s departments, expanding the collection and evolving each
line’s style as Marguerite grew up. Forever her mother’s muse, Marguerite
continued to inspire the style of the collections, with the house growing
as she did.
Today, Lanvin continues to be at the forefront of fashion, creating looks
and styles that fashion-lovers around the world aspire to attain. With the
talented Alber Elbaz at the helm, he has been Lanvin’s Artistic Director for
over a decade, the collections still reflect the Lanvin look that Marguerite
inspired and Jeanne created.
This season the collections, for both ladies and gentlemen, feature
streamlined cuts with metallic accents and leather detailing. The women’s
collection features both sensual and androgynous pieces, with sexy bustier
dresses for the femme fatale and drop waist dresses for a step back into
the chic art deco 20s. Meanwhile the men’s
collection is sophisticated and playful with
suits, daring shorts and bright trench coats.
And not forgetting the collection that started
it all, the children’s collection features princess
dresses with chiffon detailing, pleats and ruffles
as well as fun print t-shirts and a baroque-style
cap-sleeved jacket that will complete any little
girl’s very fashionable wardrobe making Jeanne
and Marguerite Lanvin very proud.

movies from the 14th to the
25th of the month, hosting
the 67th Cannes Film Festival
with the who’s who of the film
industry making their way to
the famous city to celebrate the talents of
moviemaking. With stars descending onto the
seaside destination from all over the world, the
city is transformed into a star-studded affair
where everything, even spas, gets the red
carpet treatment.
Just a two-hour trip will get you from the
City of Light to the City of Movies where you
can stroll along the Promenade de la Croisette,
walk up the “grandes marches” and sip
champagne on the beach.
To start off your sejour on a glamorous
note, book yourself in for the exclusive Red

EXPERIENCING
THE ABSTRACT
Through an exhibition entitled Abstract Experiences – Beyond the Real, the
Opera Gallery takes the visitor into the world of the abstract and its various
manifestations. Allowing for a new look into the radical and decisive turning
point undertaken by art at the beginning of the 20th century, the abstract,
a visual language of shapes, forms, lines and colours, gives rise to often
emotionally moving works. A very special colour-filled show unfolds inside
the gallery with works like Damien Hirst’s intriguing Circle Spin Painting, the
optical illusions of Victor Vasarely while Pierre Soulages shows us that it is
possible to express both black and light at the same time. It is a world that
transports us outside of the real world into a seemingly parallel world of

The Carré Rive Gauche event is taking visitors on a discovery this year with galleries and venues
presenting objects with a unique story behind them and sometimes even an episode in history.
A host of art fields and mediums are represented including archaeology, primitive arts, ceramics,
textiles, curiosities, and furnishings. Discover the Marquise de Pompadour’s personal knife, a
silver scale model of the English warship, the HMS Victory, a richly ornamented rare buffet from
the Renaissance and a pair of 17th century Venetian caryatids that were once in the collection
of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé. Participating galleries will be hosting special exhibitions
and showcasing exceptional objects and works throughout the month with some objects only
on display from May 15th to May 18th. The Carré Rive Gauche is held in galleries in the 6th and
7th arrondissements on seven streets which form a square: quai Voltaire, rues des Saints-Pères,
Université, Bac, Beaune, Verneuil and Lille. – P.V.

Over the past 25 years, the American photographer Stanley Greene has
recorded scenes in some of the most dangerous places on the planet from
Sudan to Kashmir, Afghanistan and Chechnya. His photographic path
has been atypical. The former Black Panther studied photography at the
San Francisco Art Institute from whence he embarked on a photographic
journey into the city, at the time home to an underground punk scene,
with the resulting documents revealing frenetic sequences of daily life in
the milieu. He moved onto New York, where he was born, then Paris for
a career in fashion photography before his famous picture of the Berlin
Wall in 1989 was taken,“Kisses to All, Berlin Wall”, after which he began
documenting danger zones, the result being a body of powerful, at times
ethereal, pictures. He continues today to produce photographic essays and
in a show entitled Hidden Scars, the Polka Galerie retraces his exceptional,
out of the ordinary career. – P.V.

Powerful Pictures
A colourful and bountiful world unfolds at the Galerie
Matignon with the works of graffiti artist Cyril Phan,
alias Kongo. The gallery is presenting a selection of
his recent works including paintings on canvas, works
on plexiglass and sculptures. The self-taught street
artist initially gained notice as a tagger and graffiti
artist on the Parisian, European and American urban
stages and greatly contributed to defending graffiti
as an artistic discipline in its own right. Today, he
regularly welcomes artists of the street art movement
into his own studio, Narvaland, where artists from
around the world create group works. His expressive
and colourful style brings to mind the abstract and
calligraphy as elaborate shapes and letters come
together in highly eye-catching works and his innate
fine taste has not gone unnoticed by actors on the
luxury goods scene, with the prestigious House of
Hermès producing a collection of their celebrated
luxury scarves using his paintings. – P.V.

SWEDENA comfortable and humanistic world unfolds in the works of the Swedish artist
Carl Larsson. The Petit Palais is hosting the first exhibition ever held in France
devoted to this figure of Swedish art and the Arts and Crafts Movement. Entitled
“Carl Larsson, the Painter of Popular Pictures of Sweden”, the exhibit brings
together over 100 works – watercolours, paintings, engravings and furnishings
– plunging the visitor into peaceful domestic life and the bucolic, civilised
countryside of Sweden. His watercolours from the late 19th century album, Our
House, are particularly touching, revealing rooms attesting to the sophistication,
simplicity and warmth of Swedish interiors. Slices of Swedish life emerge with a
young girl, Lisbeth, fishing, an artist painting in a snow-filled village surrounded
by sleds, and a group of children enjoying a day on the lake catching crayfish
ultimately for lunch as a food-laden table in the painting reveals. – P.V.
