3. Introduction
O During the first four hundred years of
industrialization, it was all about machines, which
gradually replaced the human labor. They were so
important that humans were not even considered a
resource. Not anymore. With information
revolution, internet connectivity and the age of
customized services, humans are the greatest
resource. That makes human resource
management, by far, the most important stream of
the art of managing business.

4. Human resources definition.
O Human resource management (HRM) is the strategic
and coherent approach to the management of an
organization's most valued assets - the people
working there who individually and collectively
contribute to the achievement of the objectives
O HRM is the function within an organization that
focuses on recruitment of, management of, and
providing direction for the people who work in the
organization. HRM can also be performed by line
managers.

10. HRM: Scope
1. Personnel aspect-concerned with manpower
planning, recruitment, selection, placement, transfer,
promotion, training and development, layoff and
retrenchment, remuneration, incentives, productivity
etc.
2. Welfare aspect-It deals with working conditions and
amenities such as canteens, rest and lunch
rooms, housing, transport, medical
assistance, education, health and safety, recreation
facilities, etc.
3. Industrial relations aspect-This covers union-
management relations, joint consultation, collective
bargaining, grievance and disciplinary

procedures, settlement of disputes, etc.
11. Importance of HRP
The importance of HRs can be discussed at four levels
1.Significance for an organization
The achievement of organizational goals can be
achieved
through the following:
• Attracting and retaining the required personnel.
• Developing the necessary skills and right attitudes
among employees.
• Full utilization of the available human resources
• Securing willing cooperation of employees through
motivation, participation, grievance handling.
