IDEATION METHOD | LATERAL | Using stimuli
STAGE 1
Spend 8 minutes listing the essential features of the following things (you can change these):
Space Station e.g. connects with other spaceships…etc.
Well-known pop star
Volcano
Celebrity chef
Mineral water
STAGE 2
Spend 8 minutes applying the essential features to your problem/opportunity as a root to
potential solution
E.g. Airport. connects with…other users, join other features such as calendar etc.
STAGE 3
Spend 8 minutes on long to short list and documenting the strongest concepts as sketches

IDEATION METHOD | NARATIVE | Using stories
STAGE 1
Split into pairs of a) Listener and b) Storyteller groups
Storytellers assume the identity of a customer/user
Storytellers Tell A Story of their imagined current/future experience
Listeners ask questions and look for opportunities to change/improve the experience
STAGE 2
Teams come back together and brainstorm ideas from their pairs
Create long lists and then reduce and synthesize them into the best ideas
STAGE 3
Concepts are documented as sketches

STAGE 1
Spend 8 defining the antithesis of the problem/opportunity at hand and create themes of
anti-concepts
E.g. We have too many customers on Social Media…

Spend 8 minutes applying each of the anti concepts as a starting point for concepting
solutions to your problem/opportunity
E.g. DIGITAL SATURATION – we need to build self support systems…

IDEATION METHOD | ROTATION | Using multiple inputs
STAGE 1
Spend 8 minutes in pairs, starting with a single idea described by one person that the
other person then builds on
STAGE 2
Come back together as a group and spend 8 minutes agreeing on the best, worst and
middling concept and repeat the process as a complete group with these 3 concepts as
starting points
