Bamboo Liao is recommended for a National Society for Minorities in Hospitality scholarship. She is currently the president of the Purdue University chapter of NSMH and has shown exceptional leadership, growing membership exponentially. As the NSMH Scholar in the prior year, she motivated her to take on greater roles including president and event planning chair. Bamboo has also excelled academically as a sophomore in the Honors College with a 3.85 GPA and certificate in entrepreneurship. The letter writer strongly endorses Bamboo for a scholarship based on her dedication to NSMH and academic achievements.

Re: Letter of Recommendation for Yizhu (Bamboo) Liao
Dear Scholarship Award Committee:
I have never been so pleased to provide a reference for a student as I am today. My
purpose for writing is to recommend Ms. Yizhu (Bamboo) Liao as a potential National
Society for Minorities in Hospitality scholarship recipient. Ms. Liao is the current Purdue
University chapter president, National Society for Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH), and I
am the Purdue University chapter adviser for our organization. Bamboo has been a
committed student, chapter member, leader, and advocate of NSMH from the beginning
of her academic career here at Purdue University. We are extraordinarily fortunate to
have benefitted from her personal and institutional leadership and hope to continue our
streak of good fortune through her graduation in 2018.
As a result of Bamboo’s leadership, our NSMH chapter continues to multiply its
membership by exponential factors. Now for the 2nd
year in a row, we have broken a
record for attendance at the regional conference meeting in Las Vegas this year and
look to bring twenty members to the national conference in Washington DC in February,
2016! Bamboo’s experience as our NSMH Scholar in the 2014-2015 academic year
prompted her to run for the presidential slot in the current year. She also occupies the
Community Service & Event Planning chair positions. Since the beginning of her
involvement, she has attended every conference and event associated with NSMH.
Bamboo’s accomplishments via NSMH mirror her academic and other
extracurricular achievements. While only a sophomore in Purdue’s Hospitality and
Tourism Management major (HTM), she is enrolled in the Honors’ College and has
been on the Dean’s list every semester since her start. She has completed the
Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation all while carrying a 3.85/4.0 grade point
average.

I have found Ms. Bamboo Liao to be a delightful, hard working, analytical, and
generous student. Her industriousness, diligence, and personality have yielded
unparalleled enthusiasm for NSMH’s Purdue chapter. Coupled with her intellect and
dynamism, Bamboo is destined to be a success and a lifelong emissary of NSMH and
its tenets. She has my enthusiastic endorsement as a recipient of an NSMH
scholarship. Please feel free to contact me for anything I’ve neglected to address.
