• It is cognitive component of attitudes toward a social group—specifically, beliefs about what a
particular is like.
• According to attitude approach—some groups are characterized by –ve stereotypes and this
leads to general feelings of hostility… In result, other group starts to discriminate.
3. Stereotyping: Believes about social Groups
• Stereotypes are subtlety generalizations of any social groups like gender, race, nationality,
caste, creed and what not. They are often formed for the beleifs and expectations they had for
other groups.
• Gender Stereotypes:~
Beleifs concerning about both men and women—both positive or negative.

• Women are particularly underrated.
• Only 16% of corporate officers in USA are woman, whilst only 01% hold position
of CEO. What would be the statisitics in the Pakistan ??
• Even though Women has shown their expertise in every field… There is final
barrier that prevents women—as a group—from reaching top positions in the
workplace; Glass Ceiling.
• This happens because stereotypic attribues of “typical manager” overlaps with
“typical men” more than as compared to “typical woman”. Hence they are
considered less fit for organizational leadership.

became successful leaders of their respective.
Even though, they work more smartly but they receive
less evaluations as compared to man.
They literary violate their stereotypic expectancies instead
they act like an prototype of Leader—which takes a lot of
courage.

• How women break the glass ceiling ??
There is an intriguing hypothesis for that at times of crisis
may the prime time for women advancement.
• Examples: Benazir Bhutto, Haseena Wajid or First female prime-
minister was elected when country face economic collapse.

even knowing about it ??

we need married people here not singles
one; Stereotypes led to discrimination.
12. Why do people form and use stereotypes??
• They often function as schemas—cognitive framework for
organzing,interpreting and recalling information.
• This subtley helps out the cognitive misers, so they could invest least
amount of cognition in the situation. (reason for stereotyping)

• Consider the following groups: homosexuals, U.S.
Soldiers,Asians,Latins and Cat lovers.
If you are asked what you think about them—their characteristics—you
can easily write/ probabily wont find any difficulty to distinguish and
scribble their traits.
• That’s where our stereotypes about other groups are operational. They
literally act as theories describing any specific group.
• When en encounter those type of persona from group who doesn’t fit in
their respective stereotype;Subtype.
14. Do stereotypes ever change?
• According to the theorist, stereotype will remain same as long as
relation with that group is same and stable.
• If the relation between the individual and the group is altered, that’s
where stereotypes are changed.
