7. Rule # 1:
Be Respectful
Behaving in a way that does not offend, disrupt,
or harm yourself or other people.
Examples of Rule Violation:
Intentional Aggression
Intentional Destruction of Property
Stealing
Lying
Name Calling/Teasing
Cursing/Swearing
Complaining/Whining
Interrupting
8. Rule # 2:
Follow Instructions
A counselor tells you to do something and you do
it or begin to do it within 10 seconds
Examples of Rule Violations:
A counselor tells all of the children to go to their
seats and get their materials ready. One child starts
to go to his seat and then stops to talk to a group
member for 15 seconds
The staff member instructs a child to stop playing
with his pencil. The child stops but starts again after
three seconds
The teacher gives the group instructions to open
folders and begin working. One child fails to open

Use Materials &
Possessions Appropriately
Using materials and possessions only for the
purpose and in the manner for which they were
made for
Examples of Rule Violations:
Playing with a pencil as if it were an airplane
Holding a book or folder in front of your face,
hiding from others
Taking your name tag off and playing with it
Chewing on pieces of clothing
10. Rule # 4:
Stay In Your Area
Remain in your seat or area until you are given
permission to move to another location.
In seat : sitting in your chair, facing forward, with all four
chair legs on the floor.
The assigned area: refers to the area that is designated
by the teacher at a particular point in time.
Example of Rule Violations:
Standing at your desk while completing an assignment
Getting up to sharpen a pencil without asking permission
Leaving seat to talk to another child
Sitting with chair tilted back, with the front legs off the floor
Getting up without permission to retrieve materials from
the floor
11. Rule # 5:
Stay On-Task
Paying attention to the current assigned task.
Paying Attention is:
Looking at or manipulating materials in front of you that are
necessary for completing the assignment
Looking at the board, the computer screen, or another location
where materials related to the lesson are displayed
Looking at an instructor who is in the process of providing instruction
Looking at a peer who has been asked a question by the instructor
during a group lesson
Contributing new information relevant to the discussion
Examples of Rule Violations:
Aimlessly shuffling through papers
Daydreaming instead of working on an assignment
Doodling on a piece of scrap paper instead of looking at
the teacher while the teacher is talking to the class.
