Samuel Clemens, better known by his pen name Mark Twain, chronicled his life adventures through his famous literary works. He grew up on the Mississippi River and drew from his childhood experiences there for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. As an adult, Clemens traveled extensively throughout Europe and around the world, recording his encounters in travel books like Roughing It and Following the Equator. Though his works were aimed primarily at entertaining children, Clemens hoped that adults would also find relatability and humor in being reminded of their own childhoods through his stories.
