5. Supply Management
The Canadian Chicken Marketing Agency held its
inaugural meeting in Ottawa February 5th and
6th, 1979. The U.S. was awarded access to 6.3% of
the domestic production. This percentage was
based on the historic amount of chicken that had
been imported in the years 1975-1978
establishing a predictable level of access.

• Eggs can be sold ungraded at “Farm Gate”
• All eggs sold at retail must be graded
• Must be stored at 4 degrees or lower, clean
and free of “cracks”
• Must be new unmarked cartons
8. CHICKEN
• Limited to 200 chickens per year
• Must be processed at a Provincially or
Federally inspected Abattoir
• Must be stored at 4 degrees or lower for fresh
and 0 degrees or lower for frozen
