  3. 3.  Loss of control of urination  Sexual difficulties  Abnormal sweating  Abnormal breathing or heart rate  Balance problems  Difficulty thinking  Difficulty speaking or swallowing  Vision problems
  4. 4.  When there is not so serious:  Clear patients airways  Médical patients  Monitor and surgically relieve high levels of intracranial pressure  put patients on life support systems, if necessary They will be transferred to subacute TBI treatment centers if they are not stable.
  5. 5.  traumatic brain injury patients enter subacute treatment centers in shock or a state of post-traumatic amnesia  Patients with mild to moderate TBI spend little, if no time in subacute treatment centers.
  6. 6.  Assistive technologies  Counseling and/or therapy  Medications  Physical therapy Keep in mind that patients' individual complications and conditions will vary depending on their:  Age
  7. 7. While the ultimate goals of chronic care and rehabilitation are recovery and independent living, the short-term goals that help achieve these ideals may include:  Being able to socialize  Re-learning to speak and otherwise communicate  Walking again
  8. 8.  Eat a well-balanced diet .  Change your position frequently.  Drink water throughout the day.  Do not smoke.  Establish a good relationship with your physician and have regular physical check ups.
  9. 9. For driving:  Always wear a seat belt.  Secure or buckle children  Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  Do not ride in a car with a driver who is impaired by alcohol or drugs..  Prevent others from driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
  10. 10. For sports:  Always wear a helmet when  Riding a bike, motorcycle, scooter, or skateboard;  In-line skating and rollerskating;  Skiing or snowboarding;  Horseback riding.  Wear a helmet during the following sports activities  Football  Ice hockey  Batting and running the bases in baseball and softball
