Repainting your Adirondack chair can certainly give it a new character and a
fresher look. Not only will you be able to save some dollars, but, you can also
preserve the memories you have spent with your old furniture.
Because outdoor furniture is more prone to changing temperatures and weather
conditions, they are more likely to lose or peel their paint color as compared to
indoor furniture. Instead of looking for Adirondack chairs for sale and buying a
new set of expensive furniture, you might consider repainting it. Here is how you
can do it.

Before anything else, be sure to prepare all the things that you will need to
repaint your Adirondack chair. These materials include:
Sealer or primer
Sanding blocks
Paintbrush (2" and 1" )
Exterior-grade paint ( the color depends on your personal choice)
Sandpaper and electric sander
Box wrenches or screwdrivers
Rag
Here are the steps that you will have to do:
First, bring your chairs in your garage or in any roofed area of your house to
keep them away from morning dew and rain.
Let them stay there for a few days.
Check if the Adirondack chairs are completely clean and dry.
Start to sand them to smoothen their surface. You can use a hand-held electric
sander to sand the surface. To reach out to the spaces between the slats, you can
utilize a flexible sanding block.
Because using electric sanding tool can tend to loose the screws, check them and
tighten them using a wrench or screwdriver. Also check if you already have to
replace the screws.
Once completely sanded apply one coat of sealing primer. Use the 2" brush when
applying the primer to the flat surfaces and use the 1" brush to cover the spaces
between the slats of your Adirondack furniture. Start applying with the chair
positioned upside down.+-
After applying the sealing primer between the slats, reach out to the surface
under the chair and wipe down the drips using the rag.
Once the bottom part of the chair is dry, flip it over and apply the sealing primer
on the upper surface. Do the same thing like you did in step 7.
As soon as the primer is already totally dry, turn the chair upside down again.
This time, apply the first coat of the exterior-grade paint.
Wait for the paint to completely dry before flipping it over again.
Apply the first coat of the exterior-grade paint on the upper side of the chair.
Repeat steps 8 to 11 to apply the second coat of the of the exterior-grade paint.
When applying the primer to your Adirondack patio furniture, be sure to coat
everything especially the corners to avoid water from penetrating to the wood. Be
sure every part that is exposed to water and moisture are properly primed.
