This document discusses living a Christian lifestyle that is pleasing to God and considers others. It talks about using knowledge temperately with love, making lifestyle choices carefully, and avoiding causing others to stumble. Christians should live freely but also become like others to win them for the gospel. The overall message is that Christians should live devoted to God while balancing truth, love, and consideration for other believers.
2. 35 I am saying this for your own good, not
to restrict you, but that you may live in a
right way in undivided devotion to the
Lord.
1 Corinthians 7:35
3. KEY LIFESTYLE CONCERNS
1.To live a life that is pleasing to the Lord
2.Allow us to live in peace and to be supportive
of one another
3.Allows us to reach the lost
4. 1 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We
know that we all possess knowledge.
Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2
The man who thinks he knows something
does not yet know as he ought to know. 3
But the man who loves God is known by God.
1 Corinthians 8
5. 1.All believers possess knowledge
2.The product of knowledge alone is PRIDE
3.When knowledge is tempered by love there
is EDIFICATION
4.The ultimate form of knowledge – to be
KNOWN by God
6. Does your lifestyle reflect your
commitment to Christ?
What criteria do you look to when your
make lifestyle choices?
Do you have difficulty balancing truth and
love?
7. 4 So then, about eating food sacrificed to
idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all
in the world and that there is no God but
one. 5 For even if there are so-called gods,
whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed
there are many “gods” and many “lords”), 6
yet for us there is but one God, the Father,
from whom all things came and for whom we
live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ,
8. 7 But not everyone knows this. Some people
are still so accustomed to idols that when
they eat such food they think of it as having
been sacrificed to an idol, and since their
conscience is weak, it is defiled. 8 But food
does not bring us near to God; we are no
worse if we do not eat, and no better if we
do.
9. 9 Be careful, however, that the exercise of
your freedom does not become a stumbling
block to the weak. 10 For if anyone with a
weak conscience sees you who have this
knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, won’t
he be emboldened to eat what has been
sacrificed to idols? 11 So this weak brother,
for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your
10. 12 When you sin against your brothers in
this way and wound their weak conscience,
you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if
what I eat causes my brother to fall into
sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I
will not cause him to fall.
11. 1 CORINTHIANS 9:19–
23
19 Though I am free and belong to no man, I
make myself a slave to everyone, to win as
many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became
like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the
law I became like one under the law (though I
myself am not under the law), so as to win
those under the law. 21 To those not having
the law I became like one not having the law
12. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the
weak. I have become all things to all men
so that by all possible means I might save
some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the
gospel, that I may share in its blessings.
Knowledge puffs up, nagiging mayabang.
1 cor.
“but loves builds up” = loves strengthens the faith of the believer rather than destroy it.
Verse 2 = some assumed that knowledge was a true sign of spirituality. They don’t understand that knowledge without love indicates a lack of knowledge
Verse 3 = those who love God Live in relationship with Him.this is also the basis of for godly conduct.
(diyos diyosan pertaining to gods without life/power)
Verse 6 = refers to belivers who exist to fullfil God’s purpose in the wolrd.
Verse 7 = food sacrifice to idol, could represent to communion with other gods.
Verse 8 food does not bring us close to God.
