 Business attire can be called as appropriate wear for an interview, for a 
professional job and dress code wear for work in an office environment. 
 Dress codes are written and more often, unwritten rules with regard to clothing. 
 Business attire for men includes a suit, jacket, shirt, trousers, tie, dark socks and 
dress shoes. 
 For women, business attire includes a suit or an ensemble of a skirt, dress slacks, 
or dress with a jacket, blouse, hosiery and closed toe shoes.
Corporate Dressing for Women 
 Treat your business clothing as an investment and choose wisely. Make sure you 
buy classic styles that suit your body shape, are comfortable, have quality 
workmanship and quality material. 
 For business/corporate situations match your handbag , shoes and belt. Black 
shoes should be matched with a black handbag. This is not a time to get creative 
with your accessories or to wear colored shoes.

 Do not neglect your outerwear . Purchase a good quality coat that can be worn with 
either pants or a skirt. For cooler weather don't neglect your outdoor footwear. For skirts 
choose long knee-high boots. 
 Keep shoes and boots in a good state of repair. Scuffed shoes with worn heels will ruin 
the look of your outfit. 
 To complete your look choose soft leather gloves that will add a nice touch as well as 
keep your hands from getting chapped.

Corporate Dressing for Women 
 Choose clothing material that reflects the season. Heavy fabrics and tweeds are 
best for Fall and Winter and will look out of place during Summer, as light linen 
fabrics will look out of place during Winter. 
 Always wear a belt where there are belt loops . Choose a good quality leather belt 
and don't be tempted to wear a flashy or plastic belt. If you don't like belts choose 
pants without loops
Personal Grooming 
 Wear minimal, neutral-toned make-up that enhances your appearance 
 Hairstyle should reflect your personality yet be well-groomed and clean 
 Perfume: a little is just enough 
 Nails: clean, short & manicured (clear polish or French style)

 A suit in shades of black, gray or dark blue, in either a solid color or with pinstripes is 
acceptable for formal business-wear. 
 The shirt should be a light color or a crisp white when the suit is dark. The sleeves of the shirt 
and blazer should reach the wrist. Do not roll up shirtsleeves as it can be viewed as informal. 
 Ties should be made of silk or a similar material and can include a color and print which 
provide an attractive contrast when viewed against the shirt and blazer. Stay away from loud 
patterns, cartoon characters and novelty prints.
Corporate Dressing for men 
 Choose socks to match the color of the pants or shoes. They should reach around the 
height of the calf. Socks made from natural materials will aid in wicking away excess 
moisture. 
 Shoes should be somewhat formal and always cleaned with a good shoe polish. When 
unsure, choose black leather shoes with laces since they can easily go with most styles. 
 The style of the belt should compliment the material and style of the shoes.

 Keep haircuts short and well maintained, and always shave any facial hair. 
 Jewelry for men should generally be limited to one ring on each hand at most, and a formal 
style watch. Avoid earrings and necklaces. A necklace with a religious symbol should be 
tucked inside the shirt so as not to be visible. 
 Wear a long formal wear coat over the suit. This can normally be omitted in summer.

 Choose a light and fresh body spray. For colognes, either use a light variety in a small 
amount or none at all. Make sure that the fragrance is not overpowering and test it out 
a day before the interview by asking for someone’s feedback. 
 The briefcase should complement the overall look. Choose a smart case or portfolio in a 
dark color.

 Make sure that what you wear fits you properly 
 Be comfortable 
 As for level of appropriateness: if you are in doubt, either ask someone you trust 
or wear something else

 Keep a straight posture 
 Give a firm handshake 
 Make eye-contact when speaking 
 Use proper grammar 
 Make sure you have fresh breath & clean teeth 
 Keeps knees together when sitting 
 Wear clothes of good quality 
 Think “professional” not “trendy” 
Dress for the position you want, not the position you have

 Speaking too softly or too quickly 
 Wear scuffed up or scruffy shoes – polish them 
 Wear clothing with loose or missing buttons 
 Wear clothing with hems in need of repair 
 Wear stained, spotted, or perspiration-stained clothing 
 Curse or use profane language 
 Wear too much jewelry 
 Chew gum 
 Wear shoes with no hosiery 
 Have an outdated or unbecoming hairstyle 
 Have hair roots in need of retouching 
 Have chipped nail polish

An Overview  Business attire can be called as appropriate wear for an interview, for a professional job and dress code wear for work in an office environment.  Dress codes are written and more often, unwritten rules with regard to clothing.  Business attire for men includes a suit, jacket, shirt, trousers, tie, dark socks and dress shoes.  For women, business attire includes a suit or an ensemble of a skirt, dress slacks, or dress with a jacket, blouse, hosiery and closed toe shoes.
  • 5. Corporate Dressing for Women  Treat your business clothing as an investment and choose wisely. Make sure you buy classic styles that suit your body shape, are comfortable, have quality workmanship and quality material.  For business/corporate situations match your handbag , shoes and belt. Black shoes should be matched with a black handbag. This is not a time to get creative with your accessories or to wear colored shoes.
  • 8. Corporate Dressing for Women  Do not neglect your outerwear . Purchase a good quality coat that can be worn with either pants or a skirt. For cooler weather don't neglect your outdoor footwear. For skirts choose long knee-high boots.  Keep shoes and boots in a good state of repair. Scuffed shoes with worn heels will ruin the look of your outfit.  To complete your look choose soft leather gloves that will add a nice touch as well as keep your hands from getting chapped.

Heavy fabrics and tweeds are best for Fall and Winter and will look out of place during Summer, as light linen fabrics will look out of place during Winter.  Always wear a belt where there are belt loops . Choose a good quality leather belt and don't be tempted to wear a flashy or plastic belt. If you don't like belts choose pants without loops

Corporate Dressing for men  A suit in shades of black, gray or dark blue, in either a solid color or with pinstripes is acceptable for formal business-wear.  The shirt should be a light color or a crisp white when the suit is dark. The sleeves of the shirt and blazer should reach the wrist. Do not roll up shirtsleeves as it can be viewed as informal.  Ties should be made of silk or a similar material and can include a color and print which provide an attractive contrast when viewed against the shirt and blazer. Stay away from loud patterns, cartoon characters and novelty prints.

Socks made from natural materials will aid in wicking away excess moisture.  Shoes should be somewhat formal and always cleaned with a good shoe polish. When unsure, choose black leather shoes with laces since they can easily go with most styles.  The style of the belt should compliment the material and style of the shoes.

Corporate Dressing for men  Keep haircuts short and well maintained, and always shave any facial hair.  Jewelry for men should generally be limited to one ring on each hand at most, and a formal style watch. Avoid earrings and necklaces. A necklace with a religious symbol should be tucked inside the shirt so as not to be visible.  Wear a long formal wear coat over the suit. This can normally be omitted in summer.

Make sure that the fragrance is not overpowering and test it out a day before the interview by asking for someone’s feedback.  The briefcase should complement the overall look.
