My Learning Episode Overview
This episode 1 provides an opportunity for students to examine and
reflect on a school and learning development.
My Intended Learning outcomes
In this episode, I must be able to determine the characteristics of a
school environment that is safe, secure, and is supportive of learning.
My Performance Criteria
I will be rated along the following:
 Quality of my observation and documentation
 Completeness and depth of analysis
 Depth and clarity of classroom observation-based reflection
 Completeness, organization, clarity of portfolio
My Learning Essentials
A physical conducive for learning is one that has consistent practices
that:
 Keep the school safe, clean, orderly and free from distraction;
 Maintain facilities that provide challenging activities; and
 Address the physical, social and psychological needs of the students.

My Map
To realize my Intended Learning Outcomes, I will work my way
through these steps:
My mission is to do the following tasks;
The School as a Learning Environment | LEARNING EPISODE 1
4. Based on your
gathered data in the
checklist, describe the
school environment.
3. Make a reflection on
the characteristics of a
school environment that
learning promotes
learning.
1. Present your idea of a good school environment through any of
these:
a) Descriptive Paragraph
b) Photo Essay
c) Sketch or drawing
d) Poem, song or rap
1. Visit a school. Look
into facilities and
support learning areas
in the campus, then in
the classroom.
2. Accomplish the
checklist as you move
around the school
premises.
My Tools
As you move around the campus, activity forms are provided for you to
document your observation. It is advised that you read the entire
worksheet before proceeding to the school site. A good understanding of
the activities and tasks to be accomplished in the activity sheets will yield
better learning results.
Outdoor/
Garden 
They have 12 plots
between classroom and
CR.
It can help the students to have an
idea in agricultural and it can and on
their knowledge.

SCHOOL FACILITIES CHECKLIST
Familiarize yourself with the different areas and facilities of the school.
Check the column to indicate their availability. Give a brief description of
those that are available, and say how each will contribute to the learning
students’ learning and development.
Facilities  Description
Will it contribute to the students’
learning and development. Why?
Office of the
Principal 
There are 2 sofas, 1
computer, 2 tables, 6
chairs and 1 electric fan.
A clean Principal Office can motivate
the students to have a clean classroom
too and if their classroom is clean they
can study well.
Library 
There are 4 raws of
bookshelves, 2 tables, 1
computer, and 2 teachers
table.
Having a good and complete furniture
in the library, the students will enjoy

accommodating the students, the
students will enjoy to study.

healthy so that they can study well.
Medical Clinic

A yellow room, 1 bed, 2
pillows, 1 electric fan, 2
chairs, 1 computer,1

them in their health, only few students
will be having a sick so that they will
be easy to them to study.
Facilities Description
Will it contribute to the students’
learning and development. Why?
Home

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT
Read the following statements carefully. Then write you observation
report on the provided space.
1. Describe the community or neighborhood where the school is found.
2. Describe the school campus. What colors do you see? What is the
condition of the buildings?
3. Pass by the offices. What impression do you have of these offices?
4. Walk through the school halls, the library, the cafeteria. Look around
and find out the others.
The School as a Learning Environment | LEARNING EPISODE 1
Name of the School Observed: Governor Ferrer Memorial National
Highschool - Buenavista Annex
School Address: Buenavista 2, General Trias, Cavite
Date of Visit: July 29,2015
1. It is really far from them in highway, you need to pass by in the bridge
and near the school there are few houses and wide fields.
2. I can see green, yellow, blue, pink and brown colors. There are 9
buildings but there are only 2 story buildings. Some of the building
are too old.
3. Some of the offices are crowded because there are many teachers
are using the offices, but most of the offices are spacious and the
furnitures are obviously a good quality.
4. Their cafeteria sells healthy foods and it is big like the school halls,
while the library is too small.
An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT
Be guided by these tasks as you do your observation. Then accomplish
the matrix to record your data.
1. Look at the walls of the classroom. What are posted on the walls? What
heroes, religious figures, lessons, visual aids, announcements, do you
see posted?
2. Examine how the pieces of furniture are arranged. Where is the
teacher’s table located? How are the tables and chairs/desk arranged?
3. What learning materials/equipments are present?
4. Observe the students. How many are occupying one room?
5. Is the room well-lit and well-ventilated?

2. Teacher table is located at the center and the chairs arranged with 5
columns and 5 rows.
3. The teacher present her lesson by using a projector, laptop and a power

4. There are 43 students. 24 boys, and 23 girls.
5. The classroom is well ventilated.
My Analysis
How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact the
learning of the students going to school? What are the conclusions?
 The way going to school is too far and the road is rough, for me there
are great impact on the students learning because if t is too far to go to
school, the students will be lazy to attend their classes.
How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent
development/ How does this relate to your knowledge of facilitating
learning?
 As a future educator, know that I know that are many factors that can
affect the students in going to school. And by knowing such factors, I
can now adjust on my students needs.
The School as a Learning Environment | LEARNING EPISODE 1
My Reflection/Insights
1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed?
Why? Why not?
 No because there are many students and some of the them didn’t
respect their teacher. They are too crowded and noisy because the
division of very classroom are only playground, so that the noise in the
other classroom can be heard. Also the school is near on the river.
2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?
 A school campus that is conducive in learning are like there are good
and relaxing environment, and good facilities.
3. What kind of the classroom is conducive to learning?
 A classroom that is conducive in learning is like there are spacious
classroom, good furniture, clean facilities, complete learning materials
and there are only 30-40 students.
4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?
 For now, I will study hard so that I can be a good teacher in the future. If
I have good grades and right experiences I have no doubts that I can
accomplish to become a compassionate teacher.
5. Write your additional learnings and insights here.
 I learned that teaching in public school with many noisy students is not
easy, so that it is required that you have a long patience and also you
have to control your emotion.

My Personal Illustration of an Effective
School Environment
The School as a Learning Environment | LEARNING EPISODE 1
My Personal illustration of an effective school
environment is an environment that is structurally
built in strong, clean external and in internal, free
from noise of the outside world so that the students
will feel peaceful and concentrated. On the
classroom part, one that is conducive in learning is
a classroom that has many charts, posters, sayings
and inspirational quotes as motivation and
additional information to children. Also those that
have models like the Globe, projects and a whole
lot more of projects.
