Unit 11 Passages II
Think-Pair-Share
Which
achievements
are the most
important?
Think about important achievements that have taken place in the
world or in your country. These achievements can be of any kind
(e.g., political, medical, technological, artistic, etc.).
Which
qualities are
the most
important?
Think about the people responsible for these achievements. And
the qualities these people probably have in common
(e.g., intelligent, independent, hardworking, brave).
What sort of impact do they have?
Exceptional Values
• What values do you think were most important
for people?
• What are three most important values for your
friends?
Compound adjectives usually
cannot be separated into a
noun + be + adjective
construction, even though it
might seem like it would mean
the same thing.
Correct: He Is a very absent-
minded professor.
Incorrect: His mind Is very
absent.
Some compound adjectives
that can be separated are:
- kind-hearted, cold-hearted,
blue-eyed (or any other color)
- brown-haired (or any other
color).
Compound adjectives related to the body
Use these compound
adjectives and others
you can create to
describe exceptional
people or characters
real or fictional.
empty-headed hot-blooded
cold-hearted openhearted
hardheaded open-minded
narrow-minded absent-minded
coolheaded warm-hearted
