Mythical creatures
 Exploring mythical creatures across cultures (The
stories we tell ourselves about how we came to be)
 Mythology, the stories we tell about the genesis of the
cosmos is fascinating for children and it is interwoven with
the history of each country. Our idea is to expand this
knowledge by exploring alternative storylines of genesis
from other cultures. By doing so the students and teachers
will be able to identify common themes that underline the
shared human experience. In other words students will
have the opportunity to experience through
art, literature, theater and other suitable subjects (i.e.
geography) the myths of the participating countries.
Sea or ocean fairytales
 Our sea or ocean fairytales through
songs, myths, traditions, food, art and history
 The ocean or the sea
 The students will have the opportunity to study the impact
of seafaring on the history, politics, culture of the
participating countries.
 They will experience through
cooking, singing, painting, sculpting, acting, the distinct
traditions of each participating country.
Project ideas
 Exploring mythical creatures across cultures (The stories
we tell ourselves about how we came to be)
 Figures of mythical creatures
 Illustrate a map with mythical creatures of the seas across Europe
 Make a year calendar for 2014 and illustrate each month with a
legend, story, seasonal activity that relates to the marine
tradition of each participant country
 Our sea or ocean fairytales through
songs, myths, traditions, food, art, sayings
 Images of women in traditional art
Big ideas
 Local environmental issues
 Active citizenship
 Controversial issues
 Scientific knowledge
 Dialectic argumentation
