Objective of tutorial
The objective of this Tutorial is run the Janus Video Call test on the
Grid Manager with Network Instrumentation.
Objective: reproduce simple load testing

Objective: reproduce Jitsi experiment, automatically
Objective: test network resilience, adaptation (BWE, CC)
Setup
• Setup KITE by following instructions from:
• https://github.com/webrtc/KITE
• Setup KITE-Sample-Tests by following instructions from:
• https://github.com/CoSMoSoftware/KITE-Sample-Tests/tree/master/
KITE-Janus-Test
KITE-Janus-Test
• The KITE-Janus-Test includes tests for 4 demos:
• Echo Test: https://janus.conf.meetecho.com/echotest.html
• Streaming: https://janus.conf.meetecho.com/streamingtest.html
• Video Call: https://janus.conf.meetecho.com/videocalltest.html
• Video Room: https://janus.conf.meetecho.com/videoroomtest.html
• Today we’ll be using the Video Call test
• To run the test:
• r configsvideocall.januscon.config.json
Grid Manager
Grid Manager
Login to
• https://gridmanager.cosmosoftware.io
• Usename: ask Lorenzo Miniero
• Password: ask Lorenzo Miniero
Network Instrumentation
Network Instrumentation
• GOOD for 30s
• Up/Down BW limit at 800 kbps for
60s on GW1 (Alice’s IP Router)
• GOOD for 30s
• You can check the pre-configured scenario for this test in Test Runner -
> Tests
Network Instrumentation
• The Grid Manager creates a Test
Bed on AWS with multiple Gateways.
• Gateway are Linux VMs with multiple
NITs and configured as routers
• The main advantage of using
Gateways is that the Clients are OS
agnostics. We can simulate exactly
the same network conditions with
Clients on Windows, Linux and
Android (and Mac/iOS on our
Physical Grid)
• For Firefox and Chrome testing,
where Linux is fine, KITE is also able
to simulate NW conditions directly on
the Clients (Gateways are not
required)
Network Instrumentation
• Virtually any Network Profile
can be configured to
simulate:
• Bandwidth limit
• Packet Loss
• Latency
• Jitter
• Packets reordering,
corruption, dropping,
duplication
• Firewalls & NAT
• Anything else that can be
run on a Linux VM/router…
Running the Test
Upload the Test Script
1. Go to Test Runner -> Upload Scripts
2. Choose File -> Browse to KITE-Sample-Tests > KITE-Janus-Test >
target
Run the Test
1. Go to KITE Requests
2. Select KITE_000000001 or KITE_000000002 (they are the same)
Select the Grid
Both Grid are the same. Select one that is available.
Configure the Clients
• Enter [[0,1]] in Custom Matrix (to run only the combination 1st Client vs
2nd Client)
• Name: Alice & Bob
• Video
• Christa for Alice
• Berkely for Bob
• Launch
Monitor progress via the Logs
Monitor progress via the Logs
• Wait until it reaches: Execute(DEFAULT) completed
Check the Test Reports
• Scroll down and click on the Steps for Alice and Bob called ‘Generate
Charts’ to see the getStats charts

  • 3. Objective of tutorial The objective of this Tutorial is run the Janus Video Call test on the Grid Manager with Network Instrumentation.

  • 9. KITE-Janus-Test • The KITE-Janus-Test includes tests for 4 demos: • Echo Test: https://janus.conf.meetecho.com/echotest.html • Streaming: https://janus.conf.meetecho.com/streamingtest.html • Video Call: https://janus.conf.meetecho.com/videocalltest.html • Video Room: https://janus.conf.meetecho.com/videoroomtest.html • Today we’ll be using the Video Call test • To run the test: • r configsvideocall.januscon.config.json

  • 13. Network Instrumentation • GOOD for 30s • Up/Down BW limit at 800 kbps for 60s on GW1 (Alice’s IP Router) • GOOD for 30s • You can check the pre-configured scenario for this test in Test Runner - > Tests
  • 14. Network Instrumentation • The Grid Manager creates a Test Bed on AWS with multiple Gateways. • Gateway are Linux VMs with multiple NITs and configured as routers • The main advantage of using Gateways is that the Clients are OS agnostics. We can simulate exactly the same network conditions with Clients on Windows, Linux and Android (and Mac/iOS on our Physical Grid) • For Firefox and Chrome testing, where Linux is fine, KITE is also able to simulate NW conditions directly on the Clients (Gateways are not required)
  • 15. Network Instrumentation • Virtually any Network Profile can be configured to simulate: • Bandwidth limit • Packet Loss • Latency • Jitter • Packets reordering, corruption, dropping, duplication • Firewalls & NAT • Anything else that can be run on a Linux VM/router…
  • 17. Upload the Test Script 1. Go to Test Runner -> Upload Scripts 2. Choose File -> Browse to KITE-Sample-Tests > KITE-Janus-Test > target
  • 18. Run the Test 1. Go to KITE Requests 2. Select KITE_000000001 or KITE_000000002 (they are the same)
  • 19. Select the Grid Both Grid are the same. Select one that is available.
  • 20. Configure the Clients • Enter [[0,1]] in Custom Matrix (to run only the combination 1st Client vs 2nd Client) • Name: Alice & Bob • Video • Christa for Alice • Berkely for Bob • Launch
  • 22. Monitor progress via the Logs • Wait until it reaches: Execute(DEFAULT) completed
  • 23. Check the Test Reports • Scroll down and click on the Steps for Alice and Bob called ‘Generate Charts’ to see the getStats charts
