The CA ARCserve Family of products supports many initiatives and your customers get a complete strategy to manage their backup and recovery responsibilities in both virtual and physical environments with an expanded and integrated offering of D2D, Replication, and High Availability. This is the only solution that offers a full range of products from Bare Metal Restore to fully automated failover for High Availability
KEY DIFFERENTIATORSCentralized management capabilities allow you to organize, monitor, and configure your backup environment through a single interface resulting in greater manageability helping save time and resources Disaster Recovery testing validates the recoverability from the DR site to ensure you are able to recover successfully Simplified pricing reduces the complexity of procurement, installation, and the management of software product licensing keys, thereby saving time and money
Data deduplication (often called "intelligent compression" or "single-instance storage") is a method of reducing storage needs by eliminating redundant data.To be able to provide the customers with the De-Dup functionality – efficient usage of their disks for backups – longer retention on the same size disks
Archiving is a great way to reduce storage space and associated costs. You set the policies based on your needs and schedule archiving to tape and cloud. This solution should not be confused with formal email archiving systems.
Synthetic Full Backups makes recovery faster and easier. The system combines the last full backup with incremental backups to synthesize a full backup recovery point. Synthetic full backups can be used with deduplication and storage can be disk, tape and cloud.
What if you could backup all your Unix and Linux systems directly over your SAN and avoid sending data over your LAN?New Unix and Linux data movers are available in CA ARCserve Backup release 15 to speed up the backup and restore of data from your Unix and Linux servers. Customers running Oracle on Unix/Linux and backing up Unix and Linux file servers will see a huge increase in performance as data is moved directly over the SAN from the production storage to the backup storage media. In addition to the high speed backup and restore capabilities, all the data is tracked and managed centrally from the CA ARCserve Backup media server, shown as the WIN Primary Server in this diagram. One important note is that the Data Mover must be on a Unix/Linux server attached to the SAN and the CA ARCserve Backup media server must also be attached to the SAN for data management.
Now you can quickly and easily copy backups to the cloud for disaster recovery purposes. CA ARCserve Backup is integrated with Amazon web services S3 storage.
You can see that CA ARCserve High Availability protects file, application and database servers, applications and data. It provides continuous and periodic replication options to help you balance network resources with your desired level of protection. It is used in Windows, Linux and UNIX environments on both physical or virtual servers. For Windows environments, full system high availability replicates the operating system, system state, application and data to a Microsoft Hyper-V server to speed deployment. Real-time server and application monitoring alerts administrators at the first sign of trouble and can be configured for automated network and user redirection for high availability. Alternatively, it can be configured for push-button failover where your IT staff may first investigate the trouble and then determine the best course of action. You also get data rewind for fast data recovery and automated, non-disruptive recovery testing – a critical component to any data protection and high availability solution. And CA ARCserve High Availability is also used to help you test updates and upgrades without impacting your work environment. That means IT staff doesn’t have to stay late or come in on weekends, improving job satisfaction.
Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to view this presentation. This presentation will provide a brief technical overview of CA ARCserve D2D On Demand. We will explain its core functions and benefits, and provide an overview of the application interface.
[Slide Timing: 10 seconds – Elapsed Time: 2 min 10 sec]For this presentation we will focus on ARCserve D2D’s many standard features. We start with our server, where ARCserve D2D on Demand is installed…
ARCserve D2D uses patented I2 technology. I2 provides Infinite Incremental Backups which are automatic and efficient.ARCserve D2D:Using I2 technology tracks changes on a machine at the block level and then backs up only those changed blocks in an incremental fashion. Perpetually merges the oldest incremental recovery point into the only full recovery point. ARCserve D2D greatly reduces the disk space required your recovery points. And will always maintain the number of recovery points you have specified.Competitors:Cannot merge backup recovery pointsMust create a new full backup to keep from filling up backup disk spaceMust allocate more disk space to maintain same number of recovery points
ARCserve D2D is Simple, Efficient, Manageable and Extendable. ARCserve D2D performs incremental backups forever. Where as similar “other solutions” require you to perform frequent full backup’s.ARCserve D2D requires50% less disk i/o, less than half of the network i/o and significantly less storage space forrecovery points than the competition. All of these factors lead to Lower server impact Lower networkimpact, and a very small backup window requirement.
Also, all updates released for CA ARCserve D2D On Demand are cumulative. As a result, each update will also include all previously released updates to ensure your machine is always totally up-to-date.
CA ARCserve D2D On Demand is a subscription based product. Subscription for CA ARCserve D2D On Demand is offered on a monthly / yearly basis by CA Partners/CA Resellers. After subscribing you need to login to the CA ARCserve On Demand Portal (http://ca.geminar.com/portal_login.asp?TempParLevelz=2) to get started. After logging in, you can configure the account details and download the software.

Storage Utilization by Device pane provides a view of the overall statistics for the devices saved in the cloud and the amount of data each device is consuming
Top 10 storage usage chart shows the top 10 devices that are using the most storage for the subscription. This can be active devices or older devices which will have data saved (disabled or removed).
Licenses Overview The Licenses and Storage Purchased link displays information about the Licenses and Storage Purchased. This page provides a view of the individual licenses and devices registered with the Management Portal separated by device type.It also provides the ability to disable/enable any individual license. Disabling the license for a device prevents it from performing any new backups. If the license is disabled from a device, that license count will be freed up and become available for any device to use. However, the original device that it was disabled from will not be able to use this license again, unless it is first enabled as well as the ability to purge the cloud stored data. This operation is not reversible. If a device has already been removed, once the data is purged the device will be removed from the list. You can permanently delete the data from the cloud storage by clicking on the Purge Data option.Note that if the file copy was done using File-Copy selection instead of File-Copy (Delete Source), the data is still available in the backup location. However, if the file copy is done using File-Copy (Delete Source), the data is permanently deleted.

By managing the account the partner impersonates the customer to see exactly what they see at a more granular level. All the capabilities the customer has is available to the Partner in the Management Portal when impersonating them.
So… Now lets take a look at ARCserve D2D On Demand and walk through the product screens, settings and features. You launch the ARCserve D2D web based management console from the Start Menu:START \\ Programs \\ CA \\ CA ARCserve D2DOnce launched you will be prompted to login with a username that has administrator privileges.
Upon the first logon to the ARCserve D2D On Demand management console you see the Getting Started Screen. You may choose to view several ARCserve D2D tutorials or technical overview videos. Review the product documentation, or Configure ARCserve D2D On Demand Backup settings and job scheduling.Clicking close will take you to the main ARCserve D2D management page…
When first logging in to D2D On Demand, the subscription must be validated. Enter the email account the subscription is under and provide the password. ACRserve D2D On Demand does not work without a valid account in this section. After you enter the email address, click the refresh button next to the User Name field for the region to be discovered (from the subscription) and displayed. The Region information cannot be changed. Click Save Settings to continue.
When configuring ARCserve D2D On Demand for the first time you must configure the Backup Destination location where recovery points will be stored. This can be a local storage volume, a network shared folder, or a UNC path. The number of recovery points to maintain should also be set.
You then select which volumes you would like to include in your backup job. While the default option is to backup the entire machine, you may also choose to backup only specific volumes or applications.Note that if recovery points are stored to a local volume, that volume will be automatically excluded from backups as will removable media sources.Next you define how many recovery points you wish to retain, what level of compression you would like to use, and if you wish to enable encryption. There are 4 choices for encryption. The default is no encryption. You may also choose from AES-128, AES-196 or AES-256.*NOTE: Data Encryption is processed by the server during backup and as such this solves the problem of data security in two areas - transit (snooping network packets) and at rest (backups falling into wrong hands).
Once you have defined the volumes to backup, the number of recovery points to retain, and the level of compression desired and encryption options, ARCserve D2D will provide an estimated usage graph of the destination volume.CA ARCserve D2D On Demand lets you specify the maximum speed (MB/min) at which backups will be written. You can throttle the backup speed to reduce CPU or network utilization. For a backup job, the Job Monitor on the CA ARCserve D2D On Demand homepage will display the average Read and Write speed of the job in progress and the configured throttle speed limit. You can also limit the maximum read/write speed of file copy jobs (file copy, file copy restore, file copy catalog resync, etc.) to/from the specified destination. You can throttle the file copy speed to reduce network utilization. (If the file copy destination is a cloud location, this setting controls the bandwidth usage to this cloud location). The Job Monitor on the CA ARCserve D2D On Demand homepage will display the average Read and Write speed of the job in progress and the configured throttle speed limit. By default, the Throttle Backup/Throttle File Copy options are not enabled and the speed is not being controlled
Once you have defined the volumes and the location to store your recovery points. You can then set a schedule for when ARCserve D2D On Demand should run its backup jobs.ARCserve D2D On Demand utilizes CA’s patented I2 – Infinite Incremental Forever Technology. This means you need to perform a FULL backup only once. From that point forward you need only run incremental backups of your data. Incremental backups can be schedule to run as frequently as every 15 minutes. You may choose to also run additional full backups or verify backups as you desire, however with ARCserve D2D’s I2 technology the need to run such backups frequently is greatly reduced and often not necessary.
ARCserve D2D On Demand supports Database servers such as Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft SQL server. If you are backing up one of these database servers with ARCserve D2D you can truncate logs as part of the backup job by enabling the appropriate check box on the settings panel. For Exchange backups, you may also select the option to create a granular restore catalog.
The ARCserve D2D pre/post settings allow you to execute a command or run a script before or after a backup job has started. CA ARCserve D2D does not support PowerShell commands.
ARCserve D2D On Demand also supports file copy to the cloud as part of the subscription. This allows off site storage of protected data.Configure the settings in the file copy settings tabHere is shown enabling file copy and choices of the type of policies available.
Here is a browse of sources available for copy
Using the Source Filters pane, you can specify and limit what is being copied.
After adding the source filters, click OK to continue.
File copy can also be throttled to optimize settings to match the environmental needs. You can limit the maximum read/write speed of file copy jobs (file copy, file copy restore, file copy catalog resync, etc.) to/from the specified destination. By default, the Throttle Backup/Throttle File Copy options are not enabled.
The destination sets where the policy will copy the files and how it will handle versioning, retention, compression and encryption. The amount of data that you can copy/store on the cloud depends on the subscription option you choose.
This shows the option for schedule frequency. Note that file copy occurs after x backups occur. The data is copied from a valid recovery point.
CA ARCserve D2D On Demand lets you specify the schedule settings for your recovery points to be copied (and exported if necessary).
The ARCserve D2D email notification settings allows you to specify Google Mail/ Yahoo Mail/ Live Mail or smtp server to use for notifications. If you select smtp, you must provide the mail server information and corresponding port number to be used. This is the default setting. If you select Google Mail, Yahoo Mail, or Live Mail the mail server and port number fields are automatically populated. You may also customize the email notification Subject to alert you to which system the notification pertains to. You also have additional useful alerts to choose from. These include CPU Usage, Memory Usage, Disk Throughput and Network I\\O.
After configuring the ARCserve D2D On Demand settings the first backup job you submit will be a FULL backup.Simply click on Backup Now link on the ARCserve D2D main page and then select FULL and click OK. Your Backup job has been submitted.
Once the backup job is submitted, the ARCserve D2D Job monitor will show the current state of the backup job.Press the Detail button to launch the detailed monitor.
Initially the backup creates a snapshot.Backup then continues and you will see the progress indicate the percentage complete and what phase of the backup is in process. The throughput limit settings and other performance metrics are also displayed here.
Notice the catalog is being created. If for any reason, the catalog job fails, the catalog gets regenerated when the next backup is run.
Once complete you can review the Activity log if you wish…The Activity Log contains comprehensive information about all the operations performed by CA ARCserve D2D on Demand. The log provides an audit trail of every job that is run and can be helpful in troubleshooting any problems that occur. The activity log is stored in the default logs folder. You can access the logs folder from the CA ARCserve D2D installation location. For ex: C:\\Program Files\\CA\\ARCserve D2D On Demand\\Logs
The ARCserve D2D main page will show in its “Summary” section the status of the last backup job, the number of recover points, as well as the state of the destination capacity. When all three are showing green check marks ARCserve D2D is not reporting any problems, and the number of recovery points you have chosen to retain has been reached.
When you wish to perform a recovery you simply click on the Restore option on the ARCserve D2D main page. When restoring you may browse to a specific recovery point, and perform a FULL restore, you may choose to find only specific files or folders, or browse what granular exchange objects you wish to restore. You can also browse the files you copied to the cloud.
When you choose to browse file copies, the cloud archive window appears. As you can see here: you may select a specific folder, or file to restore.
Once you have chosen what you wish to restore, you then may choose the restore location. By default files and folders will be restored to their original location.Additional options allow you to Overwrite existing files, Replace “Active” files, or choose whether to create a root directory as part of the restore process.
Before the restore process begins you will see the Restore Summary window. This will show the files/folders or recovery points you have chosen, and will also show the restore options you have selected. Click the Finish button to start the restore process.
Once submitted, the job goes active the job monitor will update with progress, and clicking detail will launch the detailed status monitor.
Built into the ARCserve D2D management interface is a convenient way to access the ARCserve D2D online community. This online community provides an easy way for end users to provide feedback directly to CA ARCserve development teams, offer praise, report a problem, or submit a new idea. You may access the community from the main ARCserve D2D page by clicking on the link: Provide your feedback to development.
