On June 23rd of 2016, the United Kingdom (UK) voted in a referendum to leave the European
Union (EU). This decision was met with both excitement and hostility. This conflict has many
shades of grey, as so many different things happened all at once that need to be discussed. People
from all over the world wonder about the future of the UK, whether more countries will attempt to
follow in its footsteps and leave the European Union, or if the EU will remain strong and continue to
exist as the source that unifies Europe.
There are two main sides to this conflict. The first side is made up of the people who voted to leave
the European Union, while the other is of the people who voted to stay. The people who voted to
leave believe that the European Union is far too powerful, and that because of this, the United
Kingdom has lost much of its voice, having little influence as an individual nation. They see a dying
EU, struggling to retain power by forcing other nations to follow the guidelines it sets. The side that
voted to stay make the point that for the UK to have a voice, it needs to be a part of the EU. It needs
to be working alongside like–minded countries to have a real impact on the work. People for the EU
also state there would be economic and political repercussions because of Brexit.
As the UK withdraws itself from the EU, there has been and will be long–lasting effects that follow.

One of the richest countries, once ruled move then over half the world now outlines many countries
deep history and independence. The United Kingdom ran an empire that had it all. Our history dates
back to more than 800,000 years ago. The country had a charm to the unsullied land, with majestic
castles rich with liberty, breathtaking coastlines and undulating meadows for miles. Great Britain
was the land with a prosperous future; the power it held was overwhelming. "At the peak of its
power, the phrase "the empire on which the sun never sets" was often used to describe the British
Empire, because its expanse around the globe meant that the sun was always shining on at least one
of its territories. By 1922 the British Empire held sway over about 458 million people, one–fifth of
the world 's population at the time." This is a great deal for such a small nation. We were running
our own country as well as many others and essentially ruling the world.
As time goes on we are hit not with one war but two, collapsing the economy causing a recession,
inflation and strikes in 1973. At these desperate times looking across the English Channel, we see
the striving illusion of a booming economy with six westernized countries, Belgium, France, West
Germany, Italy, Luxemburg and the Netherlands. They called them selves the European Union. In a
