The Problem
Unexpected releases of toxic, reactive, or flammable liquids and gases in processes involving highly hazardous chemicals have been reported for many years. Incidents continue to occur in various industries that use highly hazardous chemicals which may be toxic, reactive, flammable, or explosive, or may exhibit a combination of these properties. Regardless of the industry that uses these highly hazardous chemicals, there is a potential for an accidental release any time they are not properly controlled. This, in turn, creates the possibility of disaster.

2. Discover key skills to effectively audit health and safety programmes in a plant environment
Gain an understanding of process safety management auditing and the core issues of effective plant safety
Apply lessons learned to processes and programmes at your own facility for success
Effectively develop and manage audit and inspection programmes to operate your facility safely
A process safety audit is an important tool in helping to establish, measure, maintain and improve process safety performance.
Audits compare your organization’s performance against established standards.
When properly conducted, an audit can help to identify and correct regulatory deficiencies, which, in turn, can improve
workplace safety and help reduce liability.
Audits can serve to increase employee awareness and understanding of environmental and safety regulations, and the audit
process can also be an opportunity to demonstrate your company's commitment to compliance.
Workplace audits may be viewed favorably by regulatory agencies. A thoroughly completed audit with proper follow-up can
signal that your company is making a good-faith effort to comply with applicable regulatory requirements.
While the need for process manufacturers to protect their people, their plant and their community is ever present, today's
economic and political climate adds new challenges. Traditional approaches to safety are no longer sufficient. Tightening risk
tolerance, and more stringent health, regulatory and environmental licensing requirements, are putting greater focus on plant
safety. The need for greater asset utilization and protection is driving development of functional safety-related skills and
competencies for operators and maintenance personnel. This all comes at a time when globalization, technology advances and
numerous other factors are dramatically accelerating the pace of business. Decisions that used to be made monthly must now
be made in minutes – and sometimes even in seconds.
