Introduction
In this Presentation I will show you the storyboard of our film
opening called Silence Is Golden. Here is our first draft of the
storyboard that shows the film opening through the lens of the
camera.
Introduction Continued …..
This is our final draft of the storyboard stating the timings of each shot, the type of
camera shot and the sound used. There are more shots in the final draft than the first
draft as the timings for the whole film opening was quite short reaching only 1:19. We
think that by adding the shots it will increase the time to at least two minutes and it will
add more action into our film opening to increase our marks even further. It also allows us
to be creative and less restricted to what we can do and achieve.
Phase 1
These are the first shots to be used in our film opening. This is the production logo
and the establishing shot of the film opening. A production logo is always needed
at the start of the film to establish who made the film and to set the tone for the
audience. The next shot is a low angle shot of the ground. One of the protagonists
are running past the camera in order to create enigma because at the start we
begin to sense equilibrium which is part of the Todorov theory that we are applying
to our film opening. This is set in a field and then we see the protagonist running
which makes the audience want to watch more to see what happens and to find
out why he is being chased. There will be some dogs barking in the background and
there will be suspense music played over the top to create a tense atmosphere.
Phase 2
This is an establishing shot of the field which establishes to the
audience the setting of the film opening.. The scene below this
picture shows the face of the main character. Throughout the film
opening the main character doesn’t speak. The camera movement is
handheld to create a tense atmosphere which gives a sense of reality
to the film and will have a bigger impact on the audience. Then there
is a mid-shot behind the protagonist to show where he is running to.
The same non diegetic music will be used.
Phase 3
This scene is parallel to the previous scene as they are happening at the same time. This is the
interrogation scene. The camera has a panning camera movement and switches to the over the
shoulder shot to the antagonist. Our main focus is on the girl in the chair as her head is down
which creates an enigma for the audience. The scene below shows the girl looking up and we
see her face has blood running down it with various other cuts and bruises to imply that she is
the victim and she has been beaten severely . As the shot is a close up, we can see the details of
her face. The camera shots used in this scene are over the shoulder shots to show the
conversation between the two people. It shows the face of the antagonist for the first time who
is interrogating her for answers. There will be no sound over the top as it creates a tense
atmosphere for the audience..
Phase 4
The type of camera shot used is a low angle shot looking up at him from the point
of view of the female protagonist as she is about to be stabbed. This is to connote
to the audience that he has more power and therefore more dominant. The
extreme close up shot of the eyes symbolise her fear to the audience. There will
be some non diegetic sound to create suspenseful atmosphere as well as leaving
the audience on the edge of their seats. This shot is a silhouette of the scene that
shows his dominance before he strikes. It will then cut to a black screen where
she screams. The scene then switches to the male protagonist running into the
woods.
Phase 5
This frame shows the main character finding the bag that was parachuted in for him
by another agent. The shots are held steady as there is no immediate action. This
scene shows a point of view shot of the note that was left for him in his bag as he
looks at the content of the equipment given to him. This is shown through a POV
shot. The next frame depicts him taking the gun and cocking it back, showing his
confidence and bravery. The final frame is a focus pull from the person to the end of
the gun. It then goes to the title scene but still playing the non diagetic music in the
background. White lettering is used to connote the image purity and innocence to
the audience.
