Reading 2015
Hialeah Gardens High School students are required to read one novel and one non-fictional article, along with viewing a film that
corresponds to the theme selected. Each box (option) encompasses all three required pieces. To comply with the summer
requirement, students are to select one box/option and read/view all components within that box. Then, compose and analytical
essay that synthesizes both readings and film. Please refer to essay requirements at the end of this document.

All essays require a minimum of 500 words, citing textual evidence, utilizing all three sources to support writing, and be submitted to your English
teacher via www.turnitin.com the first week of school.

Essay Topic: Writers tend to be influenced by the events and people they see around them. After having read the novel and non-fictional article,
and watched the film, write an analytical essay that determines how the central theme is depicted throughout the work, its characters and world
events. Make sure to site all three sources to support your writing.
