Reflection JournalDESIGN BY TEAMS METHODOLOGY:Project-Based Learning (PBL) Approach.Andi BoweAs both a professional educator and as just a home-school mom, the ability to develop online instructional design for distance learning can help me and my colleagues by providing not only Learning Centers and workshops to include PBL-Based Learning online, but also the opportunity to do ongoing action research in my Design by TEAMS Methodology. All you need is online access from home or library to use this tool and the interest of your students in their own talents and abilities will maintain self-esteem and focus on goals and objectives, because I provide a wide variety of web quests and age groupings and let the user choose what line of research they will follow.(Simonson,2003, 2000). By providing TEAMS and a method to follow in their design and outcome, I can visualize a future for education where individuals, no matter their age or status level, can use natural curiosity as both focus and goal and teach and scaffold the learning for other members of the team. The TEAMS may be virtual and online or may decide to meet in person if they are all at the same geographical location at the same time. (Grades in school may combine with teachers and parents and administrators and business leaders or anyone in the community who wishes to help implement the TEAMS designs in real life situations, global or local, as the case may be. (Chen,2002) This teaches community involvement through actually doing something to implement your chosen Project and assessment is provided by ongoing personal and team assessments as the design progresses and Project Portfolios in audio, visual or print formats as final thematic Presentations. Any student or teacher is welcome to participate and the feedback loops can only help the educational process grow and flourish, as personal goals become important and the teacher becomes the guide and mentor to the accomplishment of those goals and dreams. All the methods and materials needed are in my Design by TEAMS methodology, because the teacher uses backward design(Jensen,1998), to put all the workshops offered into a scaffolded or mentored Learning process that also evolves over time with the correct feedback and interest maintained by the students themselves, especially if this feedback becomes positive enough to allow the student to actually have an impact on their own learning and will evolve into wholeness over the lifetime of learning this may inspire. (Dils,2004),(Tomlinson,1999). The environment can be anywhere the desire to learn Design by TEAMS Methodology manifests. Case Study Received on: 2004-07-29 3:14:31 PM Comments: This is a case study based on my observations of a normal day in the life on the streets that is unfortunately becoming way to common a scenario in American life as the standard of living sinks lower for those in poverty every day. Reflection by andi bowe 7/27/04 525 3.3 Staff Development My Staff Development Meeting is an Introduction to Design and/or a Review of the Steps in the Design Process itself with a hands-on methodology that will allow the staff to experience firsthand the benefits of the design process they will then model for their students by designing feedback loops and processes for the coming term that will allow more student interaction in government of their own school and lives. We can train and implement ongoing work online so costs are low and no substitutes are needed. Those who participate in the design process learn by doing in the same way they will model this for their students with online or hands-on workshops. Those who learn the process become the teachers for the next set of administrators and staff. No special expertise or facilities will be needed except for at least one person who has previously \"graduated\" from the workshop on design. This will be implemented to offer individual students a Project that fits their own interests (no matter how diverse), whose successful conclusion will produce a valid assessment of group and personal achievement. The Staff Development Meeting will focus on this very design process in a hands on workshop offered online for download and/or printing. The staff will design and implement a feedback process to access student involvement as a potential tool of great value in planning teaching that will offer needed skills as well as diversity. The Design Process: introduction and application as a tool for interesting research into its use as both a hands-on experiential learning process and a tool for individual assessmentCommunity involvement of parents and other local groups with interesting things to teach (like a local grange or community garden project), is also to be encouraged, at least in the initial planning if not also in the feedback loop that will be established by the teachers themselves at the initial meeting by using the very design process they will be learning at the same time, in a true \"hands-on\" fashion that will undoubtedly translate to improved staff relations as well. Since most of the work may also be done online in tele-conferencing, sessions may be on site instead of in sight physically of each other if time and space limitations conflict with everyone actually getting together at the same time in the same place. This also makes the workshop very inexpensive! The total cost of the staff development will be determined only by what the participants would like on the lunch menu, because each staff member will have online access to the information all summer and should be able to come fully prepared to brainstorm and design their feedback loops for the coming term or year.Designing a Power Point Presentation that can be offered online and to the community. This will issue an invitation to anyone to attend a small workshop that documents and mentors this form of action research, using the Design by TEAMS Methodology available on my free web pages and also available for reproduction on any local internet-linked computer access. I offer these workshops free of charge, because they include a half-day potluck or picnic, usually in a city or county park if not at the school. So the cost stays low and everyone who attends becomes a mentor for the next Voyage on the Ship of Discovery!<number>
