Abstract
The purposes of this research were: (1) to compare
the results of pre-test and post-test of speaking skillby using
storytelling including tellingstory with puppets, telling story
with pictures and telling story by doing the role play. (2) to
find out creative thinking during using storytelling. The
sample of this research was36 Pratomsuksa 6/1 students of
Thetsaban Si SawatWitthaya Schoolselected by using
purposive sampling technique. The instruments of this
research were 4 lesson plans for developing English
speaking skill and creative thinking by usingtellingstory with
puppets, telling story with pictures, and telling story by
doing the role play, English speaking test, and creative
2. thinking assessment. The collected data were analyzed by
using mean, percentage, standard deviation, and
dependent t-test.
The results of data analysis showed that: (1) the
results of a pre-test and a post-test of speaking skill by
using storytelling, showed that the post-test scores were
higher than pre-test at the .05 level of significance, (2) the
results creative thinking were38% for the first lesson plan,
the second lesson plan (60%), the third lesson plan (60%),
and the fourth lesson plan (57.78%).
In conclusion, teaching English speaking skill by using
story telling could improve students’ speaking skill and
creative thinking. Therefore, teachers could use story telling
techniques for teaching English speaking skill and creative
thinking.
