This document discusses QR codes, including what they are, their mechanism of operation, features, applications, merits, and demerits. QR codes have a high data capacity and can store various types of information like URLs, contact information, and geolocation. They are readable from any direction and resistant to dirt or damage. However, users need a smartphone with a QR code reader, and not all phones have this capability.

Editor's Notes
->the QR code is read by a smart phone's image sensor, then interpreted by the system processor.
->The processor locates the three distinctive squares at the corners of the image and acts as alignment targets, and uses a smaller square near the fourth corner to normalize the image for size, orientation, and angle of viewing.
-> version 40 have 177 pixel square that stores 1852 characters.
->The small dots are then converted to binary numbers and their validity checked with an error-correcting code.
