THE PROBLEM
London is one of the most visited cities in the world with 16.8million overseas
visitors in just the last one year. With 270 underground tube stations and 84 over
ground rail stations in the city, it can be quite overwhelming for a newcomer.
In spite of many facilities to help a passenger, none seem to really address the
whole problem.
According to a study done by Passenger Focus on ticket machines, it was
found that many passengers would rather queue up at the ticket offices
instead of using the ticket machines as they found it difficult to use.
Though many tourist information desks are located at major stations and
junctions, it is next to impossible to understand the vast transport system and
passes/discounts offered with one or two visits to these. Besides this,
traditional manned helpdesks have many limitations such as shorter opening
times, limited language support, inconvenient locations etc.
Online sources like www.tfl.co.uk and other mobile applications cater to
specific travel needs and do not offer a single complete solution resulting in
people having to use many different sources to make their journeys.
