3. INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, many areas of the country, we see a dramatic increase in the
complexity and costs of managing our waste. At the same time, public concern
over the effects of all this waste has grown significantly. KSP o Kaagapay sa
Paghahanapbuhay Project promotes interventions to curtail and enhance paper
waste recovery in Purok 7 of Paranque City. Women were taught to recycle paper
and create utility items like molded pulp packaging. By making recycled paper
bags. Moreover, it is designed to provide women with providing them a way to
earn extra money for the family will be a big help in their daily living. This proposal
aims to provide an alternative source of income for house wives necessary skills
and teaching them to become resourceful. These paper bags are ideal alternative
for plastic bags. The target buyers of these paper bags are the vendors in public
markets, because public markets are one of the biggest consumers of plastic bags.
In a recent study shows that the common content of sanitary landfills are plastic
bags and non-biodegradable materials which takes a lot of years to degenerate.
Also, plastic bags are the main factor that causes clogging of drainage systems that
leads to urban flooding that is recently experienced by Metro Manila. Due to these
reasons, Cities in the Metro are limiting the use of plastic bags, like Muntinlupa, to
minimize the unwanted effects. This will open a great opportunity for paper bags
to be patronized rather than plastic bags. Through KSP programs that enhance the
skills of the woman in Purok 7 in making molded pulp packaging from recycled
papers could enable them to market the products. This could alleviate their family
expenses/lifestyles. Creating goods from recycled papers also advocates green
practices to reduce the volume of biodegradable waste sent to landfills.
