Rip Curl Live Events (LIVE STREAMING OF SURFING EVENTS)

Every year Rip Curl put on various surfing events around the world
as part of the PRO tour. I initially thought they needed an app for the
Bells Beach event where we could stream the live coverage via your
iPhone. When the app gained much popularity I pitched the idea of a
complete events app with all their events including Peniche Portugal,
San Francisco, Bali etc. The app is powered by XML feeds, rich media
push is handled by Urban Airship in California where I formed a good
partnership and relationship. The app has been very successful on
the AppStore and the design was updated for iOS7 which provided a
smooth transition for users.
PROBLEMS SOLVED
We needed to provide event feeds via the ASP and content from
BeachBytes. The difficulties with video through iPhones is bandwidth
charges, mobile phone coverage at the beach where the event is held.
Also there needs to be 2 video streams, one high and one low quality.

Resource Rate Calculator

This was the worlds first agency remuneration business mobile app
available for iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows.
The Resource Rate Calculator is a free industry calculator designed
to calculate resource rates such as head hour rates, annual salaries,
overhead & profit markup and annual billable hours.
The Resource Rate Calculator is four calculators in one:
1. Overhead cost and profit multiples – what factor must you multiply the
direct salary cost by to cover the business overhead and profit?
2. Annual Billable hours – how many billable hours are there in a year,
after annual leave, public holidays and sick-leave?
3. Annual salary – based on the hourly rate, what is the person’s annual
salary?
4. Hourly rate – converts annual salary to hourly rate.

Rip Curl Live the Search Game

Back in 2009 when iPhone 3G was the largest marketshare we made
this ‘branded entertainment’ app for Rip Curl. It was first of it’s kind and
is still groundbreaking in many ways. All the design elements from the
control panels, the User Interface, the buttons and backgrounds were
all designed to make this game unlike anything else on the AppStore.
I also had to the lead the team and Project Managed in many areas,
which can be challenging at times especially with the lack of resources.
However it was ranked #1 most popular sports game and is still the
most popular surfing game.

4. HD EyeLashes

Available: iPhone/iPad Universal App
HD Lashes wanted to launch their new eyelashes
range via their website. I thought it made sense to
‘try before you buy’ with an 99 cent app. Simply take
a photo of yourself, or use your gallery or simply use
a model.
Then use the app to see how you look with different
eyelashes...obviously this app is designed for
women. Adjust to the correct levels, change the curve
and proceed to a photo of yourself with the eyelashes
to share via social media. If you like them you can
directly buy from the app and they will be delivered
within 7 days.
I thought this idea was a winner. It is a simple idea,
something worth paying 99 cents and hasn’t been
done before.

Search in more than 1000.000 at one place
PROBLEMS SOLVED
This was a project I came into 5 years into
wireframing and project managing. I spent 4 months
and finished all the components, buttons, designs,
layouts and for the 250 webpages. This project
was unorganised at the beginning and while I was
there I managed to streamline everything to make
it efficient. The site has since grown rapidly and the
founders have had some great success.

6. Uniden Crash Cam

This was a new app that can turn your
windscreen-mounted iPhone or Android
smartphone into a crash cam to capture any
on-road incidents.
I helped concept this idea and added much
value through 5 years of mobile UI experience.
I wanted to keep it simple yet extremely
customisable in the back-end. This required a
lot of testing and strategy behind the layout and
functionality.
Instead of buying a dedicated camera, the Crash
Cam app can utilise the camera and processing
power of your smartphone to record anything
that happens on the road.
The app has a built-in G-Sensor that can trigger
recording instantly when it senses any sudden
changes in motion.
