2. Introduction
A graduate of Guntur Medical College, Dr.
AppaRao Mukkamala maintains concurrent
responsibilities as chair emeritus of the radiology
department at Hurley Medical Center and
president of Associated Radiologists of Flint, PC,
in Michigan. Dedicated to charitable initiatives, Dr.
AppaRao Mukkamala and his wife, Dr. Sumathi
Mukkamala, founded the Chinmaya Vijaya
Orphanage in India.
Based in the Guntur District’s Kaza Village, the
Chinmaya Vijaya Orphanage was established
under the Chinmaya Organization for Rural
Development, and serves as a home to over 100
adolescent girls.
3. Chinmaya Vijaya Orphanage
Through the orphanage, each girl receives a quality
education and dedicated care until they become self-
sustaining and responsible adults.
All children at the orphanage have access to an extensive
healthcare program. In addition to receiving on-campus
care from Dr. Sumathi Mukkamala, the girls may visit the
nearby Sibar Dental College and NRI General Hospital for
free health and dental evaluations.
Chinmaya Vijaya also facilitates a strong educational
background for all girls, bringing them to school each day
for a formal education while teaching practical lessons
such as conserving food and water and maintaining a
clean living space. Moreover, the girls learn valuable
ethical and cultural lessons from the elders living in the on-
campus senior center.
