2. Introduction
A radiologist based in Flint, Michigan, Dr.
AppaRao Mukkamala has dedicated himself to
supporting nonprofit organizations in India. Dr.
AppaRao Mukkamala is the founder of the
Chinmaya Vijaya Orphanage, an all-girls
orphanage operating under the umbrella of the
Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development
(CORD). Located in the Kaza Village of the
Guntur District in Andhra Pradesh, Chinmaya
Vijaya has a number of modern buildings
equipped with several important amenities.
3. Structural Amenities
All children’s dormitories include attached lavatory
facilities, a 24-hour supply of running water,
individual movable cots, and mosquito nets on all
doors and windows. In addition to a 200-person
dining hall with a sufficient water supply,
Chinmaya Vijaya plays host to a large convention
center and prayer hall with room for 300-400
people to sit comfortably. The orphanage also
makes use of modern renewable energy
technology, including a solar water heating
systems for the cold winter months.
