Mistakes to Avoid When Designing a Mobile App
1. Mistakes to Avoid When Designing a
Mobile App
Designing a functional and engaging mobile app design demands focus and knowledge. You
need to tend to all the nuts and bolts during the design and development phases. One
mistake and your app can become flawed, and eventually unsuccessful. Here are some of
the common faults designers can make with a mobile app design. Make sure you dodge
them!
Do Not Start Wireframes or Designs without a Proper Flow map
Make sure you are equipped with a well-planned and ready user flow before beginning work
on the wireframes and the designs. Even a basic application must have a well-thought-out
flow map ready to ensure a logical navigational structure.
Do Not Disregard the Budget for
Development
Everything that a designer creates will be
going through the development team in order
to recreate those elements of designs.
However, sometimes even the slightest of
changes in the design can lead to delay as
the new feature may demand more time to
develop. Design must not dictate functionality
so be careful as to how to define functionality in your design
Avoid Bitmaps and Do Not Suggest Low Resolution Graphics at First
You must design for the retina, high-resolution, pixel-dense device screens first. You may
then decide to scale down. As the number of screen resolutions on smart phone devices is
constantly expanding (iOS has four different resolutions), you should always begin designing
for the highest resolution devices and later scale down. For best results, design using vector
graphics instead of raster zed graphics or scale-restricted bitmaps.
Do Not Undersize the Hit Area
Always remember, the index fingers of most users are as wide as 1.6 to 2 cm. Take that
finger width into account, along with the fact that your users may be moving quickly and
won’t be able to specifically tap an allocated tiny area on the screen. It may seem dynamic to
pack lots of buttons into one screen, but make sure the buttons are well-labeled and big
enough (and spaced enough) to be tapped easily by the users.
Other mistakes that Mobile app design should refrain from making include gratuitously
using animation, blindly copying styles from other systems and over-stuffing the pixel-dense
screens.
