3. Q1
It was founded under a Banyan tree in 1894, much like other
stock exchanges in India to avoid the traders from crowding and
doing public trading in and around a place named after a saint by
a king who himself gave name to the city, A.
Incidentally both the kings and queens of this dynasty are buried
in this general area as well. In this World Heritage city, the
building itself, another Heritage site has been unusable after
being the centre of stock trading here for almost a 100 years and
was finally moved to a new location, primarily because of a SEBI
ruling on stock exchanges having a minimum net worth of Rs
100 crore. This stock exchange was finally closed down in 2018.
On the next page, you will find a salts and savouries merchant
who has taken over in the heritage building, as well as an old
photo of SE.
Name the place (M) and the stock exchange (A).
6. A1
The Ahmedabad Stock Exchange at Manek Chowk, in Ahmedabad. It was

jewellery bazaar. The merchant in the question slide is Juna Share Bazaar
Chanawala. The food in the slide is an Ice-Cream Sandwich, a favourite from
Manek Chowk.
7. Q2
This art piece, B takes place in a darkened room and a
computer display projected into an overhead dome, much
like a planetarium. In fact audiences do see a night sky of
stars that glow as per trading happens on particular stocks.
Each traded company is a star, which flickers and glows as
shares are traded. The stars drift around slowly trying to
find common market movements, like for example a sector
on a rise, would see stocks of that sector move together
almost in unison, giving the feeling of a zodiac sign. Stars
clump together and drift apart to form visible galaxies.
Name the art piece, a word-play on a famous formula
(B), and how does the planetarium represent systemic
shocks like the Dotcom Crash, the Enron bust and the
2008 Financial crisis (B) ?
11. A2
Black Shoals Stock Market Planetarium is an art project created by

Mr Homma was a legendary market wizard, who lived from
1724 to 1803, who is expected to have generated a wealth
of about 12 Billion USD as per today’s estimates. In the
absence of currency, rice was used as a medium of
exchange. Various shoguns would deposit rice in
warehouses across the country and they would sell or trade
coupon receipts, rice therefore becoming the first _______
market.
Homma understood that price action of the stock/security
reflects market psychology, and he can use that to
determine the mood of the market. For this he probably
invented this now ubiquitous price visualization technique,
looking like a common household item (not so common in
modern houses), which was later adapted by a certain Dow
and made into what it is today.
FITB and what is the name of this technique(C)?
14. Q4
D is a stock market movement phenomenon where a stock
which has been going on a prolonged decline suddenly sees

This newspaper F (drop the ‘the’) currently owned by a
Japanese publication, started this distinguishing trend, as it
was cheaper to do it then this way somewhere in the 1890s.
They claimed it was a way to bring quick attention to them
vs their competitors. In the 21st century, keeping up with
this trend actually increases the cost of production.
In India most major business newspapers follow this except
one from The Hindu (B).
In 2019, in a series of articles on a major digital European
payment processor (W), F determined that there was major
malpractice, and they finally filed for bankruptcy in 2020
claiming it was missing about 2 Billion USD.

speculation, long-term gains over short-term action and
reducing the broker commissions as much as possible.

higher returns with lower costs, than other actively-

bring a sudden pause to trading, as the flow of information
sometimes is non-uniform and it may cause panic dumping
or dramatic swings in market prices.
CT is what used to happen just outside of a financial
exchange, often on the street. As one observer puts it,
“There were at least a thousand people on the sidewalk and
street... Buyer and seller, speculator and investor, operator
and spectator, agent and principal, met face to face, upon
the curb and beneath the sweltering sun, opened their
mouths wide and screamed all manner of seeming
nonsense at each other”.

popular Hollywood heist movie from 2004, the movie a part of a
numerical series.

made to sign a non-compete clause. This enraged him, and he

66. Q23
In the next slide, I have given a calendar for 2021 and
marked 4 dates on this with a blue colour and 8 others with
a pink colour.
Towards the end of trading sessions on these days,
something crazy happens in markets across the globe due to
expiration of options.
This has been given a name similar to another
phenomenon, which has been scientifically explained by the
rise of melatonin in the body, roughly 12 hours away from
the crazy session timing above. Melatonin increase causes
parapsychological experiences and visions.
What is the name given to this period of time (W), and
what happens during this time in stock markets?
68. A23
Witching Hour – An increase in melatonin may cause
people to start hallucinating. It occurs generally from 2 AM
to 4 AM, while markets mostly close down around 3 PM to
4 PM. So 12 hrs difference.
A double witching occurs eight times each year on every
third Friday of the month (except for March, June,
September, and December, of course, when a triple
witching occurs). During a double witching, two of the
options and futures expire, but not all three.
A triple witching occurs when stock market index futures,
stock market index options, and stock options all expire.
A quadruple witching occurs when stock index futures,
stock index options, and stock options all expire along with
individual stock futures options. This event has only been
around since 2001, when single stock futures were
introduced.

73. Q26
This phenomenon was observed during Japan’s lost
decade. Companies quite often had an interest coverage
ratio of lesser than 1 and then had to be propped up by
other institutions, sometimes banks and sometimes by
governments themselves. 2008’s TARP brought back
the term again into vogue, and now the Coronavirus
has created a new form of super Z. They are just
surviving with sufficient life-support and can go
downhill anytime. They are extensively dependent on
capital markets for refinancing their debt. Governments
often considered these companies as ___ ___ __ ____.
Identify (Z), which might remind one of certain
cerebro-phages. FITB
