Prepositions
Prepositions are small words like ( in – on –
at)
They come after a verb and before a noun:
I went to the mall.
We left to London with Ali in April
Sometimes there are prepositions of two
words: (because of – according to – next to)
There are also preposition of three words: (in
addition to) (in front of ) (in place of)
The word (to) can be used as a preposition or
as another part of speech as in:
They come to my house.
I want to play tennis
I like to go to the cinema.
If it is followed by a verb then it is not a
preposition, it is a part of infinitive.

Prepositional phrases
A preposition + a noun = prepositional phrase.
Some prepositional phrases answer the
question (WHERE) such as:
on the table – at the door – in the box.
Other prepositional phrases answer the
question (WHEN) such as:
before the test
after class
in the morning
Other prepositional phrases describe
POSSESSION:
The door of the house.
The brother of the student.
The teacher of the class
The name of the hero.
Other used to describe or
identify someone or something
The boy in the blue shirt.
The car with chrome wheels.
The man with the golden gun.
The man from earth
Using prepositional phrases
You can use the prepositional at the beginning of
the sentence to change your writing style:
Get enough sleep before the exam.
Before the exam, get enough sleep.
I keep my pens in my bags.
In my bag, I keep my pens.
Don’t forget the comma after the prep. Phrase
