born on the 1st of July, 196.
Born in a small town in Karnal in Haryana.
Parents - Banarasi Lal Chawla and Sanjyothi.
Sudies
Schooling at Tagore Baal Niketan Sr. Sec. School, Karnal.
Bachelor of Engineering degree in Aeronautical Engineering at Punjab
Engineering College at Chandigarh in 1982.
M.S. degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at
Arlington in 1984.
3. Second M.S. degree in 1986 and a PhD in aerospace engineering in 1988
from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Began working at the NASA Ames Research Center as vice president of
Overset Methods.
CFD research on Vertical/Short Takeoff and Landing concepts.
Certificated Flight Instructor rating for airplanes, gliders and

4. Kalpana Chawla As Inspiration
First Indian woman and the second Indian person to fly in space.
From the small town and she lived simple life with.
She had no even Non sense attitude.
She was strict veterinarian.
Next generation must carry the Kalpana chawla's tourch, the tourch of
knowledge handed over to them.
Kalpana chawla inspire the young in believe in themselves and achieve
highest goal. Achievements have been an inspiration to many others in
India and abroad.
Death
Chawla died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster on February 1, 2003.
The Space Shuttle disintegrated over Texas during re-entry into
the Earth's atmosphere.
With the loss of all seven crew members.
Before it was scheduled to conclude its 28th mission, STS-107.
Indian Memorials
Asteroid 51826 Kalpanachawla, Kalpana Chawla Government Medical
College was laid in her memory by the state government.
The first satellite of the series, "MetSat-1", launched by India on
September 12, 2002, is now known as "Kalpana-1". "Kalpana-2".
5. The Kalpana Chawla Award - government of Karnataka - for young
women scientists.
An award of INR twenty-five thousand, a medal, and a certificate - best
student in the Aeronautical Engineering department and the girls'
hostel is named after Chawla at Punjab Engineering College.

NASA has dedicated a supercomputer to Chawla.
The NASA Mars Exploration Rover mission has named seven peaks in a
chain of hills, after each of the seven astronauts - One of them is Chawla
Hill, named after Chawla.
6. The University of Texas at Arlington dedicated the Kalpana Chawla
Memorial in Nedderman Hall.
A military housing development at Naval Air Station Patuxent River,
Maryland, has been named Columbia Colony, and includes a street
named Chawla Way.

1982: She moved to the United States to complete her education.
1983: Married a flying instructor and aviation author, Jean-Pierre Harrison.
1984: got an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas in
Arlington.
1988: She received a Ph.D. in the same field and began to work for NASA.
1993: Joined Overset Methods Inc. as Vice President and Research Scientist.
1995: She joined the NASA 'Astronaut Corps.
1996: Kalpana was the mission specialist for prime robotic arm operator on
STS-87.
1997: Her first mission on Flight STS-87 took place.
2000: Assigned on her second mission as part of Flight STS-107.
2003: Chawla got a second chance for the mission on Flight STS-107. On
February 1st, she died when the space shuttle broke down.
