Question 3
1. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
Question 3
2. What is a media institution?
A media institution is a organisation or company that
produces and/or distributes media products. Usually
various mass media i.e. television, radio, publishing,
advertising entertainment ect.
e.g. Bauer Media Group, Sony, Warner bros and IPC
(TimeIncUk)
It is important to chose the right media institution
because then the magazine will be advertised to the
right target audience.
3. My media product
The two potential media institutions that I could use to
distribute my magazine are Bauer and TimeIncUk
(was IPC).
TimeIncUK
This institution distributes NME, what would be my rival
magazine. However it is still successful as it sells over
300 million copies a year. It is also situated in the uk
therefore it is suitable for my magazine.
Bauer Media Group
Bauer produces/distributes over 600 magazines(such
as Q and Mojo), 400 digital products and 50 TV and
radio stations.
4. Both institutions have competition and rivalry
within there companies however I would choose
to distribute my magazine with Bauer because
NME is one of the most popular magazines of the
same genre so therefore there wouldn't be as
much competition within the same organisation.
5. Where to find my product?
I would hope to distribute as a physical product
and sold in supermarkets like Sainsbury's and
Morrisons.
I would also like there to be an online products
(i.e. website, app, on iTunes as an iBook) so its
easy to get.
