Overview
We see QR code much more than before in the
urban areas of Vietnam as part of promotions as
well as the new method of payment. How well is
QR code recognized and used in Vietnam, though?
This survey was made to understand the QR code
penetration among Vietnamese urban consumers
This survey was conducted as face-face interview
among 315 male and female from 18 - 39 years old
in HCM and Hanoi in April 2019.
How we did it?
In order to understand users’
actual behaviors and avoid
“pretenders”, we conducted the
survey face-face, while
interviewers record all the
answers and behaviors
through our unique mobile app.
QR code awareness (unaided)
39% clearly recognize about QR code. 44% in total is aware
of it.

• QR code with its name is not known well. Only 39% recognize
it.
• Once the images are shown, 60% recognize QR code clearly
and the number goes up to 82% including those who have
heard about it
• In terms of usage, no more than 14% use QR code regularly
and 37% have used QR code before
• The usage is more for the social media. Zalo is used as No.1
tool where the QR codes are used. Mobile payment is not that
highly penetrated.
• HCM people and the youth are more familiar with using QR
code. This is mainly due to their higher usage of code in
adding friends in social network.
• Those who use later OS (phone) tend to be more familiar with
QR code usage
