• He is the chairman of the Boxing Writers
Association of America's membership
committee.

• Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. on
January 17, 1942) of retired American Boxer. Ali was
born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was named after his
father, Cassius Marcellus Clay, Sr.
• His career began when he was just 12 years old.

displayed courage when he won
the Olympic medal for boxing in Rome.
In 1964, Ali won world
Heavyweight championship,
after beating the “bear”, Sonny
Liston.
Stood up against racism,
after he refused service
in a Kentucky restaurant
because he was black,
then threw his gold medal
into a river.
In 1964, Ali joined the
Nation of Islam and
and became a black
Muslim, which was
daring and an unpopular
thing to do at that time.

10. In 1964 he Revert to Islam.
Cassius Clay has adopted Islam religion with a
big surprise for all the world. He thought Islam
is way to the peace,and they pray five times a
day. “Everyone should live how they feel.”
‘Cassius Clay is a slave name. I didn’t choose it
and I don’t want it. I am Muhammad Ali, a free
man…’

11. Ali refused to go to Vietnam war
He didn’t go to war because his Islam group was
against violence.
In May 1967,the World Boxing Association took away
his boxing license and his title. He went to the prison
for 5 years. He fought this decision all the way to
the Supreme Court which ruled in his favor. After 5
years of not fighting Muhammad fought hard and
reclaimed his heavyweight championship.

sensational knockout!

• After losing the fight to Holmes, Ali’s
health appeared to be on a rapid decline:
he seemed sluggish and weak in motor
skills. Ali got Parkinson disease.
• In 1984, Ali was diagnosed with
Parkinson’s disease. The symptoms
include tremors, a tightening of the
muscles, and slowness of movement
and speech.

he lit the Olympic torch.

honored him. President Clinton
wanted to see him.

front of Ali and put his hands on
Ali’s shoulders. “They wouldn’t
tell me who would light the
flame, but when I saw it was
