2. Name of the student : Aswathy N Std:VIII
Name of the school : GHSS Marayamuttom Strength
Subject : Social Science Duration
Unit : In search of earth’s surface Date
Subunit : Weathering
Statement : Analyzed the weathering of rocks
Content Analysis : Disintegration, decomposition, weathering, physical and chemical
Composition of rocks, physical / mechanical weathering, chemical
weathering, biological weathering, expansion, contraction,
fusses of rocks, minerals.
Facts : 1. Rocks undergo changes with time.
2. Disintegration or decomposition of rock is known as weathering.
3. Mainly there are four types of weathering.
4. Physical or mechanical weathering causes due to the expansion or
contraction of minerals due to the variation in temperature.
5. Oxygen, carbon dioxide, water etc. react with the minerals and result
in the chemical decomposition of rocks.
6. The plant roots penetrating into the fissures in rocks, burrowing of
animals and the decomposition of plant and animal remains lead to the
decomposition of plant and animal remains leads to biological
weathering.
7. Human activities such as mining and quarrying also lead to Biological
weathering.
Concept : weathering
Learning outcome : 1.To understand about the different changes occure in
rocks.
2. To compare the different types of weathering.
3. To identify the different causes for the weathering.
Prerequisite : the students have basic idea about different types of
rocks.
Teaching learning
Materials PowerPoint presentation.
3. Classroom Interaction Procedure Pupil
Response
Introduction
1. Have you know about the different types of rocks?
2. Do you know about what are the causes for this changes?
With this questions teacher enters into the topic. Today we are going to discuss
Adout the topic weathering.

WEATHERING
Presentation
Activity : do you know the different types of rocks and the various
changes occuresd to them.
Slide 1
By showing the first slide teacher introduces the topic weathering and she
explain the content.
Activity II
SLIDE II
Weathering
Disintegration or decomposition of rocks is
known as weathering. As a resultthe
physicaland chemical composition of rocks
change.
1. Physical/mechanical weathering
2. Chemical weathering
3. Biological weathering
4. by showing the slide teacher explains about the three types of weathering.
Activity III
SLIDE III
Slide IV
Slide V
after showing the last slide, the teacher explains that all types of weathering and its causes. Then
teacher repeats all points once more
Physical/mechanical weathering
The expansion and contraction of minerals due to
the variations in temperature results in weathering.
Disintegration also occurs due to the freezing of
water in the fissures of rocks.
Chemical weathering
Oxygen, carbon dioxide, water, etc. react with the
minerals and results in the chemical
decomposition of the rocks.
Biological weathering
The plants roots penetrating into the fissures in
rocks burrowing of animals and the decomposition
of plants and animals remains lead to the
weathering. Apart from these, human activities
such as mining and quarrying also lead to
weathering.
5. Enrichment programme
Point out the types of weathering and its causes
in your notebooks
Review
1. What is weathering?
2. What you mean by physical weathering?
3. How the chemical weathering occurred?
4. What is biological weathering?
5. What are the human activates causes for the
weathering?
