Smart City Wheel Smart City wheel Boyd Cohen
After conducting extensive research on smart cities
metrics around the globe, Boyd developed and
published the “Smart Cities Wheel” . The Smart Cities
Wheel (Rueda de Ciudades Inteligentes”) is a holistic
framework for considering all of the key components of
what makes a city smart. In collaboration with Buenos
Aires, Barcelona and other leading cities around the
globe, Boyd developed a set of indicators to support
smart city benchmarking. aThe Wheel has been
profiled in Fast Company , UBM Future Cities, and
thousands of other sites. It has also been the driver for
smart cities benchmarking and strategy initiatives in
Argentina, Chile, Iceland, the U.S. and other countries

The role of smart city standards is to support the widespread adoption of common
approaches to the implementation of smart city products and services in order to facilitate
the rapid development of an effective smart city market. In order to support this work, BSI is
developing the Smart City. Overview which will provide a simple and easy to read guide for
smart city practitioners. It will help them find the standards that are relevant to what they
are doing and will include illustrations to help with the readability and impact of the text.
However it will also be rigorous enough to be used by standards professionals in providing a
high level draft of a reference architecture for smart cities. By providing this as a Published
Document, this high level draft can be widely tested for usefulness, so that it can provide a
firm foundation for its further development in the longer term into a systematic and detailed
technical reference architecture for smart cities.

FI-WARE FI-WARE http://www.fi-ware.org/
