Welcome to Kindergarten at Rolesville Elementary

Editor's Notes

  1. Parents please make sure you sign in before leaving if you have not already.
  2. Give example of concept of a word. Give example of syllables- pen-cil is pencil
  3. Give example of making connections Describe how each classroom differientiates instruction in order to meet the needs of all students.
  4. Students will leave kindergarten with a good intuition about numbers and their relationships. They will also know numbers by different names and representations ex 17, seventeen, 1 ten plus 7 ones, 17 ones When solving problems students can use words, pictures, or numbers.
  5. Student A- I made trains of the kids and then I made cookies for them. I made chocolate chip! I counted 18. Student B- I knew there were 18 children because I had counted them before. I put them 5 in a line. I had 3 lines then I had 3 more people. We need 18 cookies.
  6. Inside TEAM book you will find an explanation for each score. Show examples of each level. Explain difference between interims and progress updates.
  7. Have copy of book and video. Let parents know it is available for checkout
  8. Ask parents to sign request form giving their child permission to take home books. Go over sight word cards and what happens when students master each set of words. RAH books are due every Friday. If we are out of school on Friday then books should be returned on Thursdays. Go over helpful strategies to use when using RAH books. Examples in OCEAN boos, retelling hand, retelling questions, ABC chart, good readers chart. Once your child masters level5-6 a new retelling sheet will be added. Homework Calendars- letter in packet explaining what students are responsible for completing each month.
  9. Computer lab will be available for parents to register
