Character Analysis Of Dom Cobb ( Played By Leonardo...
Inception is an overhyped blockbuster accompanied by several moving parts that will leave you in awe, but nonetheless it 's a work of art. Dom
Cobb (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is not your normal thief he has the ability to enter people 's dreams and steal their ideas from their
subconscious. His skill set has made him very sought after in the world of corporate espionage which has also cost him everything he loves. Cobb
gets a second shot at redemption. He's offered a job, plant an idea in someone 's mind. If successful it 's the perfect crime, but even with intricate
planning a dangerous enemy awaits them at every turn. With only one man that could have foreseen this, Cobb. One of the most anticipated movies of
the summer, leading to an outrageous amount of hype being built up prior to the premier of the film. It has it flaws but none the less it is truly a
masterpiece.
The film was unable to live up to its own expectations given prior to release. Ross douthat from the national review says "Nolan 's movies, alas, don
't support these panegyrics. The result has been backlash: From the blogs to the glossy magazines, critics have lined up to declare the new movie
overrated, and Nolan a grim gamesman who lacks the human touch" From well known magazines, to blogs, even movie critics have deemed the film
overrated. lucius shepard from The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction says, "In the end we're left with another over–hyped summer movie, a
mash–up that quotes from a

It’S Been About Four Years Since My First Day Of Work At
It's been about four years since my first day of work at the white house. Well technically, my work for the white house started just out of college,
when I got my first job as a desk jockey at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I was working in the cyber security branch wasting my days trying to
follow the money trails of billionaires who'd move their money back and forth from offshore accounts. You would think the FBI would be some sort of
billion–dollar operation filled with machine guns, drug busts; and car chases, at least that 's what I thought it would be. The reality at the FBI was that
the people either kissed ass or got lucky by stumbling across a million–dollar drug ring.
Candidly, I hated my job: I drained hours needlessly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Four years ago, I put in a transfer notice to move into the secret service branch on the other side of D.C. Thankfully, my prayers were answered and I
reported to the White House from there on out. Over those four years, I worked very closely with President Barack Obama and never once had to step
foot in a 5x5 coffin they once called my cubicle. I became happier, giving yourself a new purpose often does that for the soul. As my heart grew
more contented, my once oversized apartment began to grow smaller. I met a girl who I now call my wife, and that guest bedroom is no longer
empty, but instead sleeps my beautiful little girl. I am lonely no longer., I have companionship and I have a family who loves me and I love them
back. I worked my way into happiness that I once only daydreamed about.
I remember the lonely moments by myself, peering over a flat landscape to the river. . Changing jobs allowed me to determine a new direction for my
life. I was able to escape the social normality and see life outside of 1024 x 786 pixels where I was confined.
When I took the D.C. transit to the White House early one morning I was told I was not only protecting President Obama today but also a film crew
and a special guest. I didn't get to know the special guests name until I met him. When he came through the gates later that day. It was very secretive at
the White House, you didn 't write what you could say and you

Stars By Richard Dyer Summary And Analysis
Stars are the faces we see and admire on television. We as a society see stars and immediately want to experience what they experience and we want
to understand them. We see stars as superficial beings. We see the roles they play in movies and television and only the major things that producers
want us to see. Richard Dyer, film critic and author of "Stars" asserts that stars are constructed to an audience so they can relate to them and easily
identify with them.We connect to the star based on a feature that we admire or share. This development from an admiration to an idolization pushes an
attempt to replicate what society admires in the star. This can either be a positive role or negative role. For example, for someone who admires
Leonardo DiCaprio, they might want to donate to his foundation supporting the economy and climate change. While others may idolize and want
to behave like Lindsay Lohan and experiment with drugs. This skews what teenagers and kids see as 'cool'. Many of the reasons why young
women want to appear thin is because of the stars we see on television. Many female stars have an hourglass shape to them, large breasts, flat
stomach, and wide hips. If one were to google the perfect body, studies about how we view the perfect body arise, as well as an article about the
perfect Kardashian body and how to get one are the first links that appear. Richard Dyer presents an idea in his book "Stars" that examines the
social types of stars. He analyzes their indigenous role in how society functions through the history of film production. Dyer describes the
characteristics of stardom as ordinariness, success, love, and consumption. Ordinariness is sought for in the eyes of stars because that is necessary to
relate to the public. If society viewed stars as another species or not human, no one would have the desire to be a star and they would become
unrelatable. High school students have been utilizing the idea of '#relatable' or '#me' for years because generally, people have the aspiration to relate to
others. Neil Patrick Harris got married three years ago to David Burtka, and three years later he made a post expressing his joy and gratitude that he
was able to marry the love of his life. The

Film Analysis Of The Movie Inception
The film Inception captured the imagination of many spectators as one of the best science fiction and thriller movies to be produced that year. It was
produced and directed by Christopher Nolan who also directed The Dark Knight, Interstellar, and Dunkirk. Inception is based on the basic inspiration
that a single idea in an individual's mind can be either the most valuable asset or the most dangerous weapon.
Inception is a science fiction thriller movie. This genre deals with situations and technology that would be classified as scientific, but does not exist in
real life. Inception connects with this because of the technology they used to enter the dreams. Although it was never explained, the machine seems to
pump somnacin into the body. Somnacin is a drug utilized to initiate dream sharing and lucid dreaming. The movie is also classified as a thriller
because of the exciting plot. It has intense chase scenes, gun fire, explosions, and fight scenes all within the dream state. The expectation for the
movie based on the trailer would be constant action. It seems that the main character is away from his family and is trying to get home, but the only
way he can is to do one last job. In the trailer the statement "your mind is the scene of the crime" is shown, this indicates that most of the content will
be in the dreams of the subject.
Inception is about as many as four levels of dreams within dreams, and dreams that eclipse reality. There seem to be two themes discussed in

Before the Flood Film Analysis Fisher Stevens exposes the catastrophic effects of climate change and the imperative need to take action to halt its rapid
progression through the 2016 documentary Before the Flood. In the film, the narrator, Leonardo DiCaprio, travels around the world to unveil the
devastating global impact of rising temperatures, interviewing experts, advocates, and notable figures along the way. DiCaprio demonstrates the
significance of climate change on a global scale through the varying perspectives and individual impact in both developed and developing countries.
Included in these views are the culprits of the problem, such as leading oil corporations, that deny the existence of climate change to protect the integrity

During this interview, Obama expresses great concern with the global issue and argues that the science behind it is "indisputable." Obama explains that
even if the sentimental loss created by the destruction of our earth isn't enough for people to acknowledge importance of this issue, they must express
concern with the national security implications and the survival of our current world order threatened by climate change. Throughout the interview,
Obama emphasizes our need to take action now. Because the president of the United States is a highly respected and influential figure, this scene
establishes substantial credibility or ethos in the film. Not only is Barrack Obama highly regarded because of his presidential position, but he has
recently expressed concern in the issue of climate change with his involvement in the Paris Agreement, a plan designed to mitigate greenhouse gas
emissions and deter global warming. The audience is likely to trust the opinion of someone who proves he is well–informed and involved in the issue.
Barrack Obama's appearance and support in the film serves Stevens purpose because it encourages the audience to more willingly trust the information
in the documentary and acknowledge the significance of climate change. It is extremely difficult to disregard the issue of climate change when the
president of the United States is arguing that its existence is "indisputable" and demands that citizens take action

Essay about Film Analysis: "Scarface" vs. "The Departed"
The gangster or mob film genre has captivated audiences for nearly one hundred years, dating back to the silent film era. Introduced through films
such as The Musketeers of Pig Alley (1912) and Underworld (1927), the genre has become increasingly complex in its development, evidenced by the
sophisticated narratives and advanced cinematographic techniques of more recent films such as Road to Perdition (2002) and The Departed (2006). This
paper will serve to analyze only two of these brilliant works, and will do so through a compare and contrast format. Howard Hawks's Scarface: The
Shame of the Nation (1932) focuses on gang warfare and police intervention during a power struggle for Prohibition–era Chicago. This pre–Hays Code

Martin Scorsese effectively uses a complex twist of plot in which the narrative of the main antagonist of the film, Staff Sergeant Colin Sullivan (Matt
Damon), is paralleled and intertwined with that of an opposing character, William Costigan Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio). Colin Sullivan, raised in a poor
Irish neighborhood of South Boston and trained to become a mole for Irish mobster Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) after his acceptance into the
Massachusetts State Police, not only must pretend to flush out the suspected mole on the force (himself), he must also find the opposing infiltrator
(Costigan Jr.) which the State Police have planted in Costello's crew. The level of complexity that arises from this scenario is unprecedented in the
genre and conclusively demonstrates the development of this type of film from its introduction to the present day. Although the differences in overall
plot of these films may vary greatly on a macro scale, The Departed is hauntingly reminiscent of Scarface when analyzed with a higher level of detail.
First of all, the name of the reigning mob boss who controlled the illegal alcohol trade that is murdered by antagonist Tony Camonte (Paul Muni) in
the opening scene of Scarface is named Big Louis Costillo. This name is strikingly similar to that of Frank Costello, the Irish mob boss

Romeo and Juliet: A Text to Film Comparison Essay
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet has been modified numerous times and has been a source of inspiration for many playwrights and directors. Franco
Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann are examples of directors that use Shakespeare's legendary tragedy as a basis for their films. In the Franco Zeffirelli
version of Romeo and Juliet, produced in 1968, the setting is accurate to the times of when William Shakespeare wrote the play. In the last act of the
film a few differences arose. In Zeffirelli's production Romeo does not request a letter telling of Juliet's well–being from his friend Balthasar, whereas
he did so in the play. This letter was to be given by Friar John, who is not mentioned in the 1968 film. In act 5 scene 3 Paris was laying flowers... Show

In the famous balcony scene, the newer version is portrayed in the Capulet's swimming pool than in the actual balcony. When Balthesar comes to tell
Romeo, who was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio, of Juliet's death, he did so on a horse. In the 1996 film adaptation, he comes to Mantua in a 1983
Ford Crown Victoria. In the scene where Romeo is in Mantua, instead of having Friar John ride a horse to Mantua to give Romeo the letter, the
letter is delivered by United Postal Service. Romeo missed the delivery of the letter twice. Once because he was in his backyard hitting rocks and
the other time was because the UPS man was walking up to Romeos' door when Romeo drove away. This letter blew away in the wind as Romeo
drove off. After departing Mantua and returning to Verona, nobody was conscious of the fact that he was back. In Baz Luhrmann's movie, a
search party was after him. The prince is represented as the chief of police. In the play Romeo kills Paris and his servant. However, in the
contemporary film, a blameless bystander is killed. While in the tomb with Juliet, Romeo places a ring on her finger. This detail does not occur in
the play. While Romeo is telling Juliet his final goodbye, her finger starts to twitch. Just as Romeo is taking the poison, which he bought with dollar
bills not gold, Juliet wakes up and sees her lover die. This is a dramatic modification to the text. Juliet then kills herself with a pistol instead of a
dagger. Lady

The movie was the remake of William Shakespeare's classic play Romeo and Juliet. A beautiful and poetic love story, where the story is told

Titanic Film Analysis
The film Titanic (1997) leading by the famous cinema director James Cameron and whose principal protagonists are Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate
Winslet. This film tells an exciting story of love between two young people from different social classes who will meet each other when they get
aboard of this extravagant boat(Cervantes). I think this movie was very successful due to different reasons. Among them I can say that their actors
played a fundamental role in the creation of this film. The ostentatious scenery that was used to mount the film and to narrate for us the catastrophe
happened with luxury of detail. This film also tells about an exciting and classic love story between two young people from different social classes,
which in my opinion was the point that attracted that much public to love this film.
Titanic tells a true story happened on April 14, 1912 during the excursion of the Titanic transatlantic. The director mounts the scene of this story in all
detail, carrying out extensive research on what happened the night the ship crashed against an iceberg, he also spent a large amount of money to
recreate every detail. A wonderful love story between two young people who were forbidden to be together because of their different social classes.
Rose (Kate Winslet) is an upper–class young woman who is forced by her mother to get marry Caledon Hockley, a prominent businessman with whom
Rose's family was to maintain high–class status. During this trip Rose meets a young painter (Jack Dawson) who lived with very little in his pockets,
he is a free soul who travels and knows the world thanks to his talent with painting. This boy managed to captivate the young girl, because in him, she
found a way out, something different from what she used to live with. This is how this love story begins to become one of the most successful films.
The actors play the perfect role in this story, each one has its own personal characteristics, which contribute greatly to this film. Leonardo DiCaprio is
Jack Dawson, making a correct interpretation. From my point of view looks like the typical guy who lives day by day without worrying about what
is going to happen. Kate Winslet is Rose. In the first place it is necessary to emphasize

Rhetorical Analysis Of Leonardo Dicaprio's Speech
Rhetorical Analysis of Leonardo DiCaprio's Speech As debates surrounding climate change have grown in recent times, especially with Donald
Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, many environmentalists have evidently viewed his deed as a call to action. In today's world,
environmental change has been glossed over simply for the fact that some disagree upon its existence. In turn, other well known figures have taken
matters into their own hands; as a strong believer in climate change himself, famous actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio gave a powerful
speech in front of the United Nations (UN) Climate summit. Through use of the rhetorical triangle, the three appeals, the patterns of development, and
SOAPSTone, DiCaprio presents his speech effectively to his audience. DiCaprio includes several appeals to ethos, logos, and pathos throughout his
speech to convey that environmental problems need resolution. Although he is not a scientist, DiCaprio builds his ethos through saying, "I am not a
scientist, but I don't need to be." He recognizes that resolving environmental damage doesn't have to fall in the hands of only the science community.
Therefore, he takes initiative by presenting himself as a concerned human being with only the thought of making the Earth cleaner. Additionally, he uses
logos by stating not only facts but also bringing attention to information that should already be obvious. After talking about way to improve our
environment through economy, he states, "The economy will die if our ecosystems collapse." As the economy relies on the environment for it's
resources that later facilitate trade, only a healthy environment can maintain a steady economy. In addition, DiCaprio uses pathos throughout his
speech to invoke fear and guilt. Most notably in his speech, he states, "And solving this crisis is not a question of politics. It is our moral obligation..."
He points out that despite knowing the Earth is changing in a negative way, people would rather choose to fight each other instead of tackle the
environmental problems themselves. And as a result of the human ability's failure to separate political views aside from bigger problems, the future
generations on the Earth will

Film Review : Shutter Island
Comparing Dennis Lehane 's "Shutter Island" and Martin Scorcese 's adaptation is like comparing a one punch knockout to a 10 round fight.
Lehane 's 10 round fights keeps throwing these punches and kicks which gives you details and time to think about what is happening, but
Scorcese quickly knocks you out, which is a complete surprise. Lehane gave the characters and the plot too much detail while failing to pose the
right question at the end. Just like a ten round fight, it fails to have that strong punch and leave a lasting impact; both of which are important in a
psychological thriller. Shutter Island is a psychological thriller that is based on schizophrenia, a mental disorder that leads to confusion,
hallucinations and false beliefs. So for the audience to truly appreciate the book or the movie, they have to feel confused and fail to realize what is
real. Scorcese manages to create this mood throughout his movie, but it is most apparent during Teddy 's dream scenes. In the first dream scene
Teddy is with his wife Dolores, inside a house. They are having a good time and it is bright outside, then Dolores walks away slowly and says,
"You have to let me go." It starts raining leafs inside the house, it gets dark outside and when Teddy goes to hug Dolores she starts bleeding from her
stomach, all the while the music in the background feels like it can belong in a wedding and in a funeral at the same time. Even more confusion is
added when Dolores says, "You can 't leave,

Transcendentalism and a Celebrity Transcendentalist:...
What is transcendentalism? Webster says transcendentalism is a philosophy that says that thought and spiritual things are more real than ordinary
human experience and material things. The more simplified definition of it is the idea that our spirits have deep connection with. We are more "in
tune" with nature and our mood is depicted by nature. So people can come to the conclusion that the "going green" movement and being "eco–friendly"
is all a part of transcendentalism, and people who support these movements are transcendentalists. Leonardo DiCaprio, a multi millionaire, lives his life

Leonardo is taking care of nature in every way he can. By owning only eco–friendly products, DiCaprio is showing that he values nature more than he

In addition to living green, DiCaprio has his own foundation Dedicated to protecting Earth's last wild places and fostering a pleasant relationship
between humanity and the natural world. His recent philanthropic efforts include; protecting tigers from extinction, saving sharks, protecting
Antarctica, and providing access to clean water worldwide. Leonardo sits on the board of numerous organizations devoted to these issues including the
Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Global Green USA and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). Over the last 12 years,
Leonardo has worked deliberately to shift public awareness on key issues. In November 2010, DiCaprio donated $1,000,000 to the Wildlife
Conservation Society at Russia's tiger summit. These efforts all tie in with transcendentalism; transcendentalists all believed that divinity was present
everywhere, in nature and in each person. Transcendentalists believed that the individual could know truth through intuition and an experience in
nature. The most famous transcendentalist, Henry David Thoreau, was a naturalist; as is DiCaprio. Another transcendentalist, Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Success of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo And Juliet
Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet was highly successful. The film sold millions at the box office and was well received by critics such as Paul
Matthews who said that Romeo and Juliet was a, "radical invention of a classic text". Although the film was released to late in the year to receive any

He cut the lines which cannot be transferred to 20th century context are cut such as the convocation between Romeo and the Apothecary, this
convocation still takes place but in a much reduced way. Baz Luhrmann also cuts a lot of the complex imagery as it would not have been as
appealing to a younger audience. Luhrmann's version of the script is far more concise than the original and does not overwhelm the audience with
too difficult language making the film far more successful with the younger viewers. Shakespeare's script was written for a very basic set but the
film's setting was very elaborate so no complex imagery or soliloquies are needed as the setting speaks for its self. Baz Luhrmann made the
Shakespearian play far more concise, slick and easier to understand which helped make the film be so successful.
As I already mentioned in my introduction bringing the play up to date made the film highly successful. This is shown in almost every scene in the
play. It's shown in the opening scenes to the movie when the "Montague Boys" arrive in a bright yellow car with modern music blaring out of the

man's plan in this world is not pre–determined, as we only determine who we are or who we want to become throughout life. Sartre states that a
person is what a person does. He also uses a metaphoric scenario of a man jumping on a scene before defining himself. These two ideas imply that
man has no ultimate meaning, and it is up to us to find it through experience and by taking action. Additionally, Sartre also implies that humans
have a huge responsibility on becoming who they want to become as it is only up to them to do so, making us entirely responsible for our
existence. Sartre states that, "when we say that man is responsible for himself, we do not mean that he is responsible for his own individuality, but
that he is responsible for all men." This quote implies that men are not only responsible for their own lives but also responsible for the
development of society as we are all an example to everyone that is born after us. Everyone that is new to this world looks up to their ancestors in
order to see what they were like and to use them as a point of guidance in order to go through life. This quote also implies that men should behave in
a way that improves this society because their actions will likely be replicated in the near future. An example of such behavior can be the one of a

How Baz Luhrmann's Interpretation of the Prologue Engages the Audience's Attention and Makes them Want to Watch the Rest of the Film How is it
that after watching the opening sequence to Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet film (properly titled William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet) about
twenty times, the exhilarating thrill I experience from it still has not faded out? To grab the attention of the viewers and keep their eyes glued to the
screen as the movie starts, the director uses a variety of special techniques, also to make it clear to the audience that this film is a far cry from the
original dullness associated with Shakespeare play recreations. Firstly, the range of music; the booming... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the thought which Baz Luhrmann wants to put into the audiences' mind for their first impression of not so "fair" Verona; so after the news
report is told, the camera whizzes into the screen behind the news reader which displays a blown up petrol station, burning away as chaos fills the
air. The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city are presented, makes the seriousness and
dramatic quality. The rapid montage of imagery adds to the rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown
hovering unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird's eye view shots are taken with speed shots– many long shots
zooming into close–ups as the panoramic view of the city is previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the crime when the noisy helicopter
makes the camera focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being injured makes the upbeat anxiety
more effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found effective, is the voice–over. Made to seem God–like, it echoes the story in brief, in a
somewhat worried and disappointed tone of voice. Luhrmann indicates the ongoing vendetta by showing the close up pictures of the families on

Martin Scorsese's The Departed Essays
The Departed, a film written by William Monahan, Alan Mak, and Felix Chong, directed by Martin Scorsese, was in my opinion a spectacular
crime–thriller deserving of less criticism from overly sentimental viewers. Though this film is in some scenes brutal and vicious, I praise Martin
Scorsese's refusal to cower away from the undeniable truth that organized crime in the United States is murderous in nature just to satisfy certain
viewers as critics advocated he should. Being a four time Oscar winning film with sixty–three other awards for numerous aspects in the movie industry,
I don't believe anyone can contradict that The Departed is profoundly unforgettable to masses of moviegoers. The film takes place during the height of

All of the characters presented in the movie have a distinct personality, making the viewer engage deeply in the heart pumping action and drama. But
the actor is nothing without the writer, and not by any means is The Departed lacking in storyline. As you watch The Departed, Colin Sullivan
(Damon) and Billy Costigan's (DiCaprio) storylines become increasingly in–depth and intertwined. Starting when Colin Sullivan is just a child and his
encounter with Frank Costello's mentorship, the story then fast–forwards to Costigan and Colin working their way through police training and
eventually amounting to Costigan undercover and Colin as a detective. The side by side comparison of their lives adds to distinct feelings about the
characters. The two "rats" continually work against each other and narrowly miss seeing each other's faces, even dating the same girl, Madolyn
(Verna Farmiga). This suspense draws watchers to the edge of their seats with anticipation for the conclusion of the movie. Phenomenal Acting and a
jaw dropping storyline are the foremost reasons why The Departed is by all means a spectacular movie. This film will go down as one of the best
crime thrillers of the 21th century. Many viewers of this movie will find themselves astonished as the storyline roller–coaster's around making twists
and turns never expected. Some may question the vulgar language and intense violence but if you are a person who's easily offended, simply do

Romeo And Juliet Analysis
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star–crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately
reconcile their feuding families. Arguably one of his most recognisable plays, it has been performed and adapted thousands of times into films, theatre,
and music, and continues to have a major impact on society today. As the play gets older, it is still being performed to modern audiences but is this
play gradually becoming aged and irrelevant to the modern audience? Will it need translation into contemporary English to remain relevant? Through
the theme of fate and exploring the work of the modernised film of Baz Luhrmann, we can conclude whether the traditional Romeo and Juliet will need
a translation into modern English. Baz Luhrmann is the director of the modernised film Romeo and Juliet– written by Shakespeare in the 1700s. Baz
Luhrmann's film interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, uses the same old English that Shakespeare's text is written in, his first scene could not be more
different than the traditional opening to Romeo and Juliet. The Baz Luhrmann Version of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' has a different setting
compared to that of the play. The director had decided to modernise the whole play. By modernising the play, changes to the weapons they used, their
method of transportation and their homes, were made. Instead of using swords in the play, they used guns in the movie. Instead of walking, they

What's Eating Gilbert Grape Essay
The movie that I watched for my first movie review is called "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" by Lasse Hallstrom, released in December 17, 1993.
This took place in Iowa, There were few main characters in the movie named Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp), Arnie Grape (Leonardo DiCaprio) and
Becky (Juliette Lewis). Gilbert Grape was a young man who looks after his younger brother Arnie and the rest of his family in this small town
called Endora. Gilbert struggles to look after everyone in his family because there are lots of problems and sometimes he can't take it, so he goes
away for a bit and then come back. I kind of dislike this movie because it's full of drama in the family and very emotional, especially about Arnie
and his disability. "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" strong central conflict is Arnie's disability and Gilbert's mother obese disease. The characters in the
movie do seem believable because they are very "used" with Arnie's and their mother's diseases. They (the kids of the family) usually help Arnie and
their mother everyday to feed, clean and everything else for them. The dialogue felt natural because it's something that they do everyday and they know

member in their family, just like Arnie Grape. I prefer you to wait until this movie is on Netflix or on videos online because it's not worth your
money to spend on in the cinema to watch this movie. Sometimes, in some scenes it could be pretty slow and you would like to get out until some
exciting parts comes in. Although, I kind of enjoyed this movie, I'm glad that I get to watch it for probably the first and last time because I have

The script is a very powerful character study exploring what it means to be insane and unraveling our very concepts of reality. Shutter Island is
absolutely gorgeous. The film is definitely Scorsese's most visually rich work since Raging Bull. The cinematography perfectly mirrors the tone of
the story and is one of the strongest points of the film. The establishing shots are breath taking. They create of the feeling of grander and adventure
with an undertone of mystery and the unknown. The environment Scorsese creates makes the viewer's skin crawl as effectively as fingernails on the
chalkboard. The score perfectly translates what is going on and further engraves the overall emotion of mystery and uncertainty into the audiences'
souls. The dream and hallucination sequences are a treat to the eyes and are some of the most striking every put on celluloid. Most of the time when a
film tries to do one of these scenes they appear poorly executed and take away from the story. That is not the case with Shutter Island as theses scenes
provide a great story telling technique. They create a haunting feeling that mirrored to the suspense in reality.
Where Scorsese falters is in the transition between reality and the nightmare world only found in Teddy's psyche. The switches feel very clunky at

The film starts by the two detectives arriving by boat accompanied by dark creepy clouds and terrible weather which leads to hurricane type winds
and stormy rain through the film. This helps contribute to the already eerie and dark environment of the mental hospital/institution. The dull grey
lighting of the sky with the dramatic rocking of the boat and loud fog horns puts you on edge from the get go. From the very beginning, it is
apparent something strange is taking place on Shutter Island and the director leaves the audience to gain the experience of watching everything
unfold. The setting of the movie is just as important as any other aspect of the film. The fact that it takes place in a mental hospital/institution on a
remote island surrounded by rocky cliffs, huge waves, caves, steeps along with a creepy lighthouse, where it is said cruel experiments take place,
screams suspense and thrill. The island is surrounded with tall brick walls laced with electric fencing and only one port to leave and arrive. The facility
itself gives off an eerie feel with its creepy architect. Inside, the buildings are littered with labyrinth style spaces that seem to almost consume its
inhabitants. Flickering, somewhat, unreliable lighting and approaching storm adds to sketchy scenery. I feel this makes the audience feel at unease
throughout the film, as if

What 's Eating Gilbert Grape?
In the 1993 drama What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Leonardo DiCaprio plays Arnie Grape, a teenager with an intellectual disability. DiCaprio's
well–planned performance creates a believably realistic portrait of life for someone with autism and intellectual disability, showing the character's own
behaviors as well as reactions by family and community members. Arnie Grape exhibits many of the behaviors associated with autism spectrum
disorder as well as intellectual disability in a more general sense. Intellectual disabilities may impact a person's cognitive functions such as executive
functions, reasoning, and judgement. Arnie climbs the town water tower multiple times even after getting into trouble each time previously. This
shows a lack of reasoning and judgement. When his brother Gilbert leaves him in the bathtub and explains what to do to bathe himself, Arnie is not
able to follow the instructions, resulting in him spending the night shivering in the cold bath water. This lack of executive functioning abilities helped
to make the character believable. Arnie also showed some of the key social–behavioral traits of autism. One of Arnie's physical movements, hand
flapping, is a stereotypical repetitive behavior present in some people with autism. Arnie also exhibits communication issues in his lack of ability in
the pragmatic use of language. When Gilbert first drives Becky home from the store, Arnie, sitting in the middle seat, does not give Becky any

Reality In The Film : Inception, By Christopher Nolan
"Inception" movie from Christopher Nolan (author of "The Dark Knight") is a stunning, mind–blowing masterpiece. There is a lot of questions that
regard the movie, due to its complexity many viewers must watch it a couple times to try to understand and find a conclusion. the main question about
the film revolves around what's real and what's a dream. Basically, Inception asks us if matter matters, if we change our definition of what is real, we
can change our reality. And if we can change our reality, can we keep track of what is real and what is not? Cobb (
Leonardo DiCaprio) can go inside

performed into ritualistic behaviors (Parks 11). They can lead a person to have very vicious cycles in which they are powerless to stop. Obsessions
most of the time revolves around fears of germs in which they avoid using public toilets and touching items. This can get so extreme to where they
will wash their hands so many times their skin will be raw, and they will shower so much their bodies will start bleeding or chapping (12). There are
many symptoms of having OCD. For example, sufferers can avoid situations that involve obsessions, overestimating harm, and worrying excessively.

Lots of music, fast cuts, fantastic cinematography and superb sets and costumes make it the lively tale it was meant to be. These features also make the
film somewhat cartoon–like with a lot of heightened realism. Don't expect to see British people prancing around in tights when you rent this one.
Luhrmann creates a world where gun–toting youths sport Hawaiian shirts and beachfront brawls are an everyday event.
Purists may hesitate, but the film uses its modern setting to its full potential and should be required viewing for any director who looks to put a
modern spin on the 400–year– old play. Capulet and Montague become warring Mafia leaders, the Prince of Verona is a police chief trying to
overcome the violence, and television anchors represent Shakespeare's traditional chorus. Other, more subtle narrative devices work equally as well.
No modern audience could mistake the significance of the "attempted delivery" post–it that falls off the door, never to be found. This isn't
just an update; director Baz Luhrmann has created a savvy exploitation of the film medium that assists the audience with Shakespeare's dated language.
Giving the classic play this modern twist makes for a new understanding of the text and brings the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets to a
whole new, dramatic level. Shakespeare may be rolling around in his grave after seeing this film, but English classes all over the world can breathe a

What's Eating Gilbert Grape Analysis
Lasse Hallstrom, director of What's Eating Gilbert Grape, uses film elements such as the setting of small town Endora, character development of for
example main characters Gilbert (Jonny Depp), as well as Alan Parker and Bjorn Isfalt's sound design and music to position the viewer to be hopeful
and learn that change is inevitable by the end of the film. The film follows Gilbert Grape and his family struggling to survive after their father's suicide
with morbidly obese mother Bonnie (Darlene Cates) and mentally handicapped brother Arnie (Leonardo DiCaprio) in the small town of Endora. The
family feels trapped in this town, in their house, that "nothing ever changes" and that "they're not going anywhere".
Hallstrom constructs his settings in the film What's Eating Gilbert Grape to position the viewer to be hopeful and learn that change is inevitable
by the end of the film. What's Eating Gilbert Grape is set in the rural town of Endora. The town is shown to be old, worn out and boring, main
character Gilbert describes the town as "dancing with no music". Campervans, small grocery stores, old wooden buildings with peeling paint and
rusty old cars are used heavily to sell the feeling of the setting as they are things synonymous with rural towns. This old, dilapidated town where
"nothing ever happens" is the perfect setup for a film where one of the main plot points is that change is inevitable as it is hard for the viewer to
envision change ever happening in a town like Endora and can prove to the viewer that change can happen anywhere. Hallstrom uses this setting in
What's Eating Gilbert Grape to position the viewer to be hopeful and learn that change is inevitable by the end of the film.
Hallstrom develops characters such as Gilbert to position the viewer to be hopeful and learn that change is inevitable by the end of the film.
Cinematography techniques are also used to develop the characters in Who's Eating Gilbert Grape. For example, during the opening sequence of the

Compare And Contrast Romeo And Juliet Movie
There were many different aspects of each Romeo and Juliet movie that made all three versions equally different, exciting, and heartbreaking. First
off, in the Zeffirelli version, the producers did a wonderful job of setting the movie to really reflects how Shakespeare wrote his play. For example,
the movie was set in Verona during the Elizabethan Era, and the clothing and way of speaking to one another fully represented the old times. Also the
casting for this movie was excellent, Olivia Hussey (Juliet) was very cute and fit the role perfectly, as well as Leonard Whiting (Romeo) who played
his part very well. Lastly, the balcony scene was very sweet and showed how much Romeo and Juliet loved each other after knowing the other for
less than a day. This movie was made so well that there is really no negative aspects to it. It is simply made and beautiful, but the Elizabethan language
is quite hard to understand, as it should be. Next, in the movie starring Leonardo Dicaprio, the producers did an excellent job of making Claire Danes
(Juliet) look very young. She wore little makeup and had a flat chest, which represents what a thirteen year old would probably look like back then.
Also, the way they filmed the scene on Romeo's death was incredible. The producers really showed how someone would react to watching their loved
one die. The only aspect that was a little confusing, was how the characters used guns called "swords" instead of actually swords. But in keeping their

Jordan Belfort In Martin Scorsese's The Wolf Of Wall Street
Human beings are born with a personally tailored moral compass, but when it comes to Jordan Belfort, he may not have developed said compass.
Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street," is a film that follows closely to Jordan Belfort's memoir of becoming a filthy rich stockbroker. "The Wolf
of Wall Street" depicts Belfort's rise to riches and fall back to reality, whom is played byLeonardo DiCaprio. Scorsese has also directed "Goodfellas"
and "The Departed," which both proved him to be a brilliant director. Making a sharp left, Scorsese surprised his fans with "The Wolf ofWall Street," as
it was more energized and less serious than most of his previous films. Belfort, making $49 million by the ripe age of 26, spends his money frivolously

Rothschild. Belfort, at this moment, portrays that his innocence is still in tact by refusing a lunchtime martini and hoping that he can be profitable
for both the clients and himself. On October 19, 1987, or Black Monday, the stock market crashed and left Belfort without a job. As he said, "Wall
Street had swallowed me up, and shit me back out." Belfort eventually took a job at small investor business where he sold penny stocks. The penny
stocks allowed Belfort to make $72,000 in one month! How you may be asking? The blue chip stocks he was selling at the large firm only resulted in
a 1% commission, while the penny stocks were 50%. Belfort used his smooth talking to talk poor shmucks into investing a few thousand dollars and he
was able to pocket half. From there Belfort opened his own business, Stratton Oakmont, with his neighbor Donnie Azoff. Rather than continue selling to
the poor, Belfort targeted the richest of the rich and would open up with the blue chip stocks, and then give the clients the penny stocks, where
stockbroker's earned the money. Stratton Oakmont continued to grow and eventually made it to Wall Street. Belfort also made money by creating
phony accounts and investing in his own stock, which brought a lot of illegal cash to his door. Although he was a clever business man, he spent his
money ignorantly. Belfort spent money on drugs, prostitutes, yachts, and of course a mansion

Inception
Everyday new movies are made within the world with amazing cinematography, music, sound, and actors. By far, Inception is one of the greatest
movies I have ever seen. Inception is different from extraction and throughout this movie you may get confused. Inception is the implantation of
another person's idea into a target's subconscious. Where as extraction is placing a thought in the mind in a dream. Throughout Inception, Cobb's team
builds dreams and within those dreams there are levels. In the movie, they are trying to go three levels deep within one dream. In the beginning of the
movie, they start off with Cobb, the main character who wants to see his children but is unable to, laying on the beach. It is intriguing because no one

The music and sounds are loud and interesting. When an important or scary scene would be approaching, the music would get louder to let the
watchers know that an important event is about to occur. The acting of Leonardo DiCaprio, also known as Cobb, is amazing. The way he fills the
dream with his subconscious is one of his best traits in the movie. Ellen Page, who is Ariadne the new architect in the movie, is also an exceptional
actor. They way she builds the dream to make it look so realistic is mind–blowing to me. When she made the town flip over itself in the movie, I was in
shock to see the level of intelligence that one can have by setting their mind to it. In the end, when Cobb is with his children and he spins the top
to see if he is in a dream or not, they cut it off so that way you can imagine if it would fall or keep spinning. I thought that scene was one of the most
enticing scenes I have ever watched in any movie. It made me want to watch an Inception 2, even though that's not a real movie. In the end, I would
like to believe that the top would fall over so that way Cobb and his children being reunited would be real and not in a dream. I would recommend this
movie to anyone who is into movies about going into the minds of

  • 1. Character Analysis Of Dom Cobb ( Played By Leonardo... Inception is an overhyped blockbuster accompanied by several moving parts that will leave you in awe, but nonetheless it 's a work of art. Dom Cobb (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is not your normal thief he has the ability to enter people 's dreams and steal their ideas from their subconscious. His skill set has made him very sought after in the world of corporate espionage which has also cost him everything he loves. Cobb gets a second shot at redemption. He's offered a job, plant an idea in someone 's mind. If successful it 's the perfect crime, but even with intricate planning a dangerous enemy awaits them at every turn. With only one man that could have foreseen this, Cobb. One of the most anticipated movies of the summer, leading to an outrageous amount of hype being built up prior to the premier of the film. It has it flaws but none the less it is truly a masterpiece. The film was unable to live up to its own expectations given prior to release. Ross douthat from the national review says "Nolan 's movies, alas, don 't support these panegyrics. The result has been backlash: From the blogs to the glossy magazines, critics have lined up to declare the new movie overrated, and Nolan a grim gamesman who lacks the human touch" From well known magazines, to blogs, even movie critics have deemed the film overrated. lucius shepard from The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction says, "In the end we're left with another over–hyped summer movie, a mash–up that quotes from a ... • 2. It’S Been About Four Years Since My First Day Of Work At It's been about four years since my first day of work at the white house. Well technically, my work for the white house started just out of college, when I got my first job as a desk jockey at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I was working in the cyber security branch wasting my days trying to follow the money trails of billionaires who'd move their money back and forth from offshore accounts. You would think the FBI would be some sort of billion–dollar operation filled with machine guns, drug busts; and car chases, at least that 's what I thought it would be. The reality at the FBI was that the people either kissed ass or got lucky by stumbling across a million–dollar drug ring. Candidly, I hated my job: I drained hours needlessly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Four years ago, I put in a transfer notice to move into the secret service branch on the other side of D.C. Thankfully, my prayers were answered and I reported to the White House from there on out. Over those four years, I worked very closely with President Barack Obama and never once had to step foot in a 5x5 coffin they once called my cubicle. I became happier, giving yourself a new purpose often does that for the soul. As my heart grew more contented, my once oversized apartment began to grow smaller. I met a girl who I now call my wife, and that guest bedroom is no longer empty, but instead sleeps my beautiful little girl. I am lonely no longer., I have companionship and I have a family who loves me and I love them back. I worked my way into happiness that I once only daydreamed about. I remember the lonely moments by myself, peering over a flat landscape to the river. . Changing jobs allowed me to determine a new direction for my life. I was able to escape the social normality and see life outside of 1024 x 786 pixels where I was confined. When I took the D.C. transit to the White House early one morning I was told I was not only protecting President Obama today but also a film crew and a special guest. • 3. Stars By Richard Dyer Summary And Analysis Stars are the faces we see and admire on television. We as a society see stars and immediately want to experience what they experience and we want to understand them. We see stars as superficial beings. We see the roles they play in movies and television and only the major things that producers want us to see. Richard Dyer, film critic and author of "Stars" asserts that stars are constructed to an audience so they can relate to them and easily identify with them.We connect to the star based on a feature that we admire or share. This development from an admiration to an idolization pushes an attempt to replicate what society admires in the star. This can either be a positive role or negative role. For example, for someone who admires Leonardo DiCaprio, they might want to donate to his foundation supporting the economy and climate change. While others may idolize and want to behave like Lindsay Lohan and experiment with drugs. This skews what teenagers and kids see as 'cool'. Many of the reasons why young women want to appear thin is because of the stars we see on television. Many female stars have an hourglass shape to them, large breasts, flat stomach, and wide hips. If one were to google the perfect body, studies about how we view the perfect body arise, as well as an article about the perfect Kardashian body and how to get one are the first links that appear. Richard Dyer presents an idea in his book "Stars" that examines the social types of stars. He analyzes their indigenous role in how society functions through the history of film production. Dyer describes the characteristics of stardom as ordinariness, success, love, and consumption. Ordinariness is sought for in the eyes of stars because that is necessary to relate to the public. If society viewed stars as another species or not human, no one would have the desire to be a star and they would become unrelatable. High school students have been utilizing the idea of '#relatable' or '#me' for years because generally, people have the aspiration to relate to others. Neil Patrick Harris got married three years ago to David Burtka, and three years later he made a post expressing his joy and gratitude that he was able to marry the love of his life. The ... • 6. Film Analysis Of The Movie Inception The film Inception captured the imagination of many spectators as one of the best science fiction and thriller movies to be produced that year. It was produced and directed by Christopher Nolan who also directed The Dark Knight, Interstellar, and Dunkirk. Inception is based on the basic inspiration that a single idea in an individual's mind can be either the most valuable asset or the most dangerous weapon. Inception is a science fiction thriller movie. This genre deals with situations and technology that would be classified as scientific, but does not exist in real life. Inception connects with this because of the technology they used to enter the dreams. Although it was never explained, the machine seems to pump somnacin into the body. Somnacin is a drug utilized to initiate dream sharing and lucid dreaming. The movie is also classified as a thriller because of the exciting plot. It has intense chase scenes, gun fire, explosions, and fight scenes all within the dream state. The expectation for the movie based on the trailer would be constant action. It seems that the main character is away from his family and is trying to get home, but the only way he can is to do one last job. In the trailer the statement "your mind is the scene of the crime" is shown, this indicates that most of the content will be in the dreams of the subject. Inception is about as many as four levels of dreams within dreams, and dreams that eclipse reality. There seem to be two themes discussed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this interview, Obama expresses great concern with the global issue and argues that the science behind it is "indisputable." Obama explains that even if the sentimental loss created by the destruction of our earth isn't enough for people to acknowledge importance of this issue, they must express concern with the national security implications and the survival of our current world order threatened by climate change. Throughout the interview, Obama emphasizes our need to take action now. Because the president of the United States is a highly respected and influential figure, this scene establishes substantial credibility or ethos in the film. Not only is Barrack Obama highly regarded because of his presidential position, but he has recently expressed concern in the issue of climate change with his involvement in the Paris Agreement, a plan designed to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and deter global warming. The audience is likely to trust the opinion of someone who proves he is well–informed and involved in the issue. Barrack Obama's appearance and support in the film serves Stevens purpose because it encourages the audience to more willingly trust the information in the documentary and acknowledge the significance of climate change. • 9. Essay about Film Analysis: "Scarface" vs. "The Departed" The gangster or mob film genre has captivated audiences for nearly one hundred years, dating back to the silent film era. Introduced through films such as The Musketeers of Pig Alley (1912) and Underworld (1927), the genre has become increasingly complex in its development, evidenced by the sophisticated narratives and advanced cinematographic techniques of more recent films such as Road to Perdition (2002) and The Departed (2006). This paper will serve to analyze only two of these brilliant works, and will do so through a compare and contrast format. Howard Hawks's Scarface: The Shame of the Nation (1932) focuses on gang warfare and police intervention during a power struggle for Prohibition–era Chicago. This pre–Hays Code gangster film ... Martin Scorsese effectively uses a complex twist of plot in which the narrative of the main antagonist of the film, Staff Sergeant Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), is paralleled and intertwined with that of an opposing character, William Costigan Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio). Colin Sullivan, raised in a poor Irish neighborhood of South Boston and trained to become a mole for Irish mobster Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) after his acceptance into the Massachusetts State Police, not only must pretend to flush out the suspected mole on the force (himself), he must also find the opposing infiltrator (Costigan Jr.) which the State Police have planted in Costello's crew. The level of complexity that arises from this scenario is unprecedented in the genre and conclusively demonstrates the development of this type of film from its introduction to the present day. Although the differences in overall plot of these films may vary greatly on a macro scale, The Departed is hauntingly reminiscent of Scarface when analyzed with a higher level of detail. First of all, the name of the reigning mob boss who controlled the illegal alcohol trade that is murdered by antagonist Tony Camonte (Paul Muni) in the opening scene of Scarface is named Big Louis Costillo. This name is strikingly similar to that of Frank Costello, the Irish mob boss ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Romeo and Juliet: A Text to Film Comparison Essay Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet has been modified numerous times and has been a source of inspiration for many playwrights and directors. Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann are examples of directors that use Shakespeare's legendary tragedy as a basis for their films. In the Franco Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet, produced in 1968, the setting is accurate to the times of when William Shakespeare wrote the play. In the last act of the film a few differences arose. In Zeffirelli's production Romeo does not request a letter telling of Juliet's well–being from his friend Balthasar, whereas he did so in the play. This letter was to be given by Friar John, who is not mentioned in the 1968 film. In act 5 scene 3 Paris was laying flowers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the famous balcony scene, the newer version is portrayed in the Capulet's swimming pool than in the actual balcony. When Balthesar comes to tell Romeo, who was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio, of Juliet's death, he did so on a horse. In the 1996 film adaptation, he comes to Mantua in a 1983 Ford Crown Victoria. In the scene where Romeo is in Mantua, instead of having Friar John ride a horse to Mantua to give Romeo the letter, the letter is delivered by United Postal Service. Romeo missed the delivery of the letter twice. Once because he was in his backyard hitting rocks and the other time was because the UPS man was walking up to Romeos' door when Romeo drove away. This letter blew away in the wind as Romeo drove off. After departing Mantua and returning to Verona, nobody was conscious of the fact that he was back. In Baz Luhrmann's movie, a search party was after him. The prince is represented as the chief of police. In the play Romeo kills Paris and his servant. However, in the contemporary film, a blameless bystander is killed. While in the tomb with Juliet, Romeo places a ring on her finger. This detail does not occur in the play. While Romeo is telling Juliet his final goodbye, her finger starts to twitch. Just as Romeo is taking the poison, which he bought with dollar bills not gold, Juliet wakes up and sees her lover die. This is a dramatic modification to the text. Juliet then kills herself with a pistol instead of a dagger. Lady ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This film tells an exciting story of love between two young people from different social classes who will meet each other when they get aboard of this extravagant boat(Cervantes). I think this movie was very successful due to different reasons. Among them I can say that their actors played a fundamental role in the creation of this film. The ostentatious scenery that was used to mount the film and to narrate for us the catastrophe happened with luxury of detail. This film also tells about an exciting and classic love story between two young people from different social classes, which in my opinion was the point that attracted that much public to love this film. Titanic tells a true story happened on April 14, 1912 during the excursion of the Titanic transatlantic. The director mounts the scene of this story in all detail, carrying out extensive research on what happened the night the ship crashed against an iceberg, he also spent a large amount of money to recreate every detail. A wonderful love story between two young people who were forbidden to be together because of their different social classes. Rose (Kate Winslet) is an upper–class young woman who is forced by her mother to get marry Caledon Hockley, a prominent businessman with whom Rose's family was to maintain high–class status. During this trip Rose meets a young painter (Jack Dawson) who lived with very little in his pockets, he is a free soul who travels and knows the world thanks to his talent with painting. This boy managed to captivate the young girl, because in him, she found a way out, something different from what she used to live with. This is how this love story begins to become one of the most successful films. The actors play the perfect role in this story, each one has its own personal characteristics, which contribute greatly to this film. Leonardo DiCaprio is Jack Dawson, making a correct interpretation. From my point of view looks like the typical guy who lives day by day without worrying about what is going to happen. • 15. Rhetorical Analysis Of Leonardo Dicaprio's Speech Rhetorical Analysis of Leonardo DiCaprio's Speech As debates surrounding climate change have grown in recent times, especially with Donald Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, many environmentalists have evidently viewed his deed as a call to action. In today's world, environmental change has been glossed over simply for the fact that some disagree upon its existence. In turn, other well known figures have taken matters into their own hands; as a strong believer in climate change himself, famous actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio gave a powerful speech in front of the United Nations (UN) Climate summit. Through use of the rhetorical triangle, the three appeals, the patterns of development, and SOAPSTone, DiCaprio presents his speech effectively to his audience. DiCaprio includes several appeals to ethos, logos, and pathos throughout his speech to convey that environmental problems need resolution. Although he is not a scientist, DiCaprio builds his ethos through saying, "I am not a scientist, but I don't need to be." He recognizes that resolving environmental damage doesn't have to fall in the hands of only the science community. Therefore, he takes initiative by presenting himself as a concerned human being with only the thought of making the Earth cleaner. Additionally, he uses logos by stating not only facts but also bringing attention to information that should already be obvious. After talking about way to improve our environment through economy, he states, "The economy will die if our ecosystems collapse." As the economy relies on the environment for it's resources that later facilitate trade, only a healthy environment can maintain a steady economy. In addition, DiCaprio uses pathos throughout his speech to invoke fear and guilt. Most notably in his speech, he states, "And solving this crisis is not a question of politics. It is our moral obligation..." He points out that despite knowing the Earth is changing in a negative way, people would rather choose to fight each other instead of tackle the environmental problems themselves. And as a result of the human ability's failure to separate political views aside from bigger problems, the future generations on the Earth will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Film Review : Shutter Island Comparing Dennis Lehane 's "Shutter Island" and Martin Scorcese 's adaptation is like comparing a one punch knockout to a 10 round fight. Lehane 's 10 round fights keeps throwing these punches and kicks which gives you details and time to think about what is happening, but Scorcese quickly knocks you out, which is a complete surprise. Lehane gave the characters and the plot too much detail while failing to pose the right question at the end. Just like a ten round fight, it fails to have that strong punch and leave a lasting impact; both of which are important in a psychological thriller. Shutter Island is a psychological thriller that is based on schizophrenia, a mental disorder that leads to confusion, hallucinations and false beliefs. So for the audience to truly appreciate the book or the movie, they have to feel confused and fail to realize what is real. Scorcese manages to create this mood throughout his movie, but it is most apparent during Teddy 's dream scenes. In the first dream scene Teddy is with his wife Dolores, inside a house. They are having a good time and it is bright outside, then Dolores walks away slowly and says, "You have to let me go." It starts raining leafs inside the house, it gets dark outside and when Teddy goes to hug Dolores she starts bleeding from her stomach, all the while the music in the background feels like it can belong in a wedding and in a funeral at the same time. He introduces this idea by stating that man's plan in this world is not pre–determined, as we only determine who we are or who we want to become throughout life. Sartre states that a person is what a person does. He also uses a metaphoric scenario of a man jumping on a scene before defining himself. These two ideas imply that man has no ultimate meaning, and it is up to us to find it through experience and by taking action. Additionally, Sartre also implies that humans have a huge responsibility on becoming who they want to become as it is only up to them to do so, making us entirely responsible for our existence. Sartre states that, "when we say that man is responsible for himself, we do not mean that he is responsible for his own individuality, but that he is responsible for all men." This quote implies that men are not only responsible for their own lives but also responsible for the development of society as we are all an example to everyone that is born after us. Everyone that is new to this world looks up to their ancestors in order to see what they were like and to use them as a point of guidance in order to go through life. The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city are presented, makes the seriousness and dramatic quality. The rapid montage of imagery adds to the rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown hovering unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird's eye view shots are taken with speed shots– many long shots zooming into close–ups as the panoramic view of the city is previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the crime when the noisy helicopter makes the camera focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being injured makes the upbeat anxiety more effective. Arguably one of his most recognisable plays, it has been performed and adapted thousands of times into films, theatre, and music, and continues to have a major impact on society today. As the play gets older, it is still being performed to modern audiences but is this play gradually becoming aged and irrelevant to the modern audience? Will it need translation into contemporary English to remain relevant? Through the theme of fate and exploring the work of the modernised film of Baz Luhrmann, we can conclude whether the traditional Romeo and Juliet will need a translation into modern English. Baz Luhrmann is the director of the modernised film Romeo and Juliet– written by Shakespeare in the 1700s. Baz Luhrmann's film interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, uses the same old English that Shakespeare's text is written in, his first scene could not be more different than the traditional opening to Romeo and Juliet. The Baz Luhrmann Version of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' has a different setting compared to that of the play. The director had decided to modernise the whole play. This took place in Iowa, There were few main characters in the movie named Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp), Arnie Grape (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Becky (Juliette Lewis). Gilbert Grape was a young man who looks after his younger brother Arnie and the rest of his family in this small town called Endora. Gilbert struggles to look after everyone in his family because there are lots of problems and sometimes he can't take it, so he goes away for a bit and then come back. I kind of dislike this movie because it's full of drama in the family and very emotional, especially about Arnie and his disability. "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" strong central conflict is Arnie's disability and Gilbert's mother obese disease. The characters in the movie do seem believable because they are very "used" with Arnie's and their mother's diseases. • 29. What 's Eating Gilbert Grape? In the 1993 drama What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Leonardo DiCaprio plays Arnie Grape, a teenager with an intellectual disability. DiCaprio's well–planned performance creates a believably realistic portrait of life for someone with autism and intellectual disability, showing the character's own behaviors as well as reactions by family and community members. Arnie Grape exhibits many of the behaviors associated with autism spectrum disorder as well as intellectual disability in a more general sense. Intellectual disabilities may impact a person's cognitive functions such as executive functions, reasoning, and judgement. Arnie climbs the town water tower multiple times even after getting into trouble each time previously. This shows a lack of reasoning and judgement. When his brother Gilbert leaves him in the bathtub and explains what to do to bathe himself, Arnie is not able to follow the instructions, resulting in him spending the night shivering in the cold bath water. This lack of executive functioning abilities helped to make the character believable. Arnie also showed some of the key social–behavioral traits of autism. One of Arnie's physical movements, hand flapping, is a stereotypical repetitive behavior present in some people with autism. Arnie also exhibits communication issues in his lack of ability in the pragmatic use of language. Luhrmann creates a world where gun–toting youths sport Hawaiian shirts and beachfront brawls are an everyday event. Capulet and Montague become warring Mafia leaders, the Prince of Verona is a police chief trying to overcome the violence, and television anchors represent Shakespeare's traditional chorus. Other, more subtle narrative devices work equally as well. No modern audience could mistake the significance of the "attempted delivery" post–it that falls off the door, never to be found. What's Eating Gilbert Grape Analysis Lasse Hallstrom, director of What's Eating Gilbert Grape, uses film elements such as the setting of small town Endora, character development of for example main characters Gilbert (Jonny Depp), as well as Alan Parker and Bjorn Isfalt's sound design and music to position the viewer to be hopeful and learn that change is inevitable by the end of the film. The film follows Gilbert Grape and his family struggling to survive after their father's suicide with morbidly obese mother Bonnie (Darlene Cates) and mentally handicapped brother Arnie (Leonardo DiCaprio) in the small town of Endora. The family feels trapped in this town, in their house, that "nothing ever changes" and that "they're not going anywhere". Hallstrom constructs his settings in the film What's Eating Gilbert Grape to position the viewer to be hopeful and learn that change is inevitable by the end of the film. What's Eating Gilbert Grape is set in the rural town of Endora. The town is shown to be old, worn out and boring, main character Gilbert describes the town as "dancing with no music". Campervans, small grocery stores, old wooden buildings with peeling paint and rusty old cars are used heavily to sell the feeling of the setting as they are things synonymous with rural towns. This old, dilapidated town where "nothing ever happens" is the perfect setup for a film where one of the main plot points is that change is inevitable as it is hard for the viewer to envision change ever happening in a town like Endora and can prove to the viewer that change can happen anywhere. Hallstrom uses this setting in What's Eating Gilbert Grape to position the viewer to be hopeful and learn that change is inevitable by the end of the film. Hallstrom develops characters such as Gilbert to position the viewer to be hopeful and learn that change is inevitable by the end of the film. Cinematography techniques are also used to develop the characters in Who's Eating Gilbert Grape. For example, during the opening sequence of the film, the camera is at a high point looking down on Gilbert, whereas during the closing sequence of the film, the camera is at a low point looking up at Gilbert. • 38. Compare And Contrast Romeo And Juliet Movie There were many different aspects of each Romeo and Juliet movie that made all three versions equally different, exciting, and heartbreaking. First off, in the Zeffirelli version, the producers did a wonderful job of setting the movie to really reflects how Shakespeare wrote his play. For example, the movie was set in Verona during the Elizabethan Era, and the clothing and way of speaking to one another fully represented the old times. Also the casting for this movie was excellent, Olivia Hussey (Juliet) was very cute and fit the role perfectly, as well as Leonard Whiting (Romeo) who played his part very well. Lastly, the balcony scene was very sweet and showed how much Romeo and Juliet loved each other after knowing the other for less than a day. This movie was made so well that there is really no negative aspects to it. It is simply made and beautiful, but the Elizabethan language is quite hard to understand, as it should be. Next, in the movie starring Leonardo Dicaprio, the producers did an excellent job of making Claire Danes (Juliet) look very young. She wore little makeup and had a flat chest, which represents what a thirteen year old would probably look like back then. Also, the way they filmed the scene on Romeo's death was incredible. The producers really showed how someone would react to watching their loved one die. The only aspect that was a little confusing, was how the characters used guns called "swords" instead of actually swords. But in keeping their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
