2. Introduction
• Drapes need to be as attractive as
possible
• The steps you use to make them will
determine the final results
• This is a do-it-yourself guidelines to
making good drapes
• Follow these steps to make good,
attractive quality curtains
3. 1. Find a Fabric
• As easy as this step may be, it may prove
to be quite a challenge
• The best fabric is one that is appealing but
also blends well with the surrounding
environment
• This step may be crucial to avoid having a
product that does not suit your desires and
imaginations
• Before settling on the final fabric, you may
do an internet search on the best fabrics
4. 2. Wash The Fabric
• Most people will skip this step but believe
you me it is advisable not to
• Do not skip this step
• The true quality of the fabric can only be
seen when it is clean
• After washing the fabric, take your time to
iron it to remove any creases
• This straightens out the fabric in readiness
for the next stem
5. 3. Measure
• Most people mess at this step
• Be sure to measure the fabric again and
again
• Take a measure, preferably from your
curtain rod to the floor. You may repeat to
get the actual measurement, or to just be
sure
• Use the measurement to measure the
fabric to the length needed. You can also
repeat this to be more accurate.
• Make sure you mark your fabric
6. 4. Cut
• This step can be more challenging since
the cutting has to be done in a near
straight line
• Make sure you spread the fabric out on the
floor to get even lines. You can use a rag
on the floor first
• Use a pair of scissors to make the cut
along a straight line
• Make sure you line up each panel
7. 5. Iron Both Sides
• Fold the cut edges
• To make the folds hold together, you can
either use pins or iron
• I prefer ironing as this will make your work
in the next step very easy
• Iron the edges in a straight line and be
sure to press hard to prevent unfolding
8. 6. Sew
• After getting all the steps right, it is time to
sew your fabric into the final product
• You can use a sewing machine to sew
straight stitches on both sides of the folds
• To have clean, finished looking hem, you
can repeat steps 5 and 6
• After this steps, you product will be ready
to hang
9. Conclusion
• Sewing drapes, using these six basic
steps, can be really simple
• However, caution must be taken so as not
to mess in any of the steps
• Follow the steps to the latter and you will
have quality products to show
